Director of Credit | Specialist Lending (Mortgages)
We’re looking for a credit person who wants to help a lender grow — not find reasons why it can’t.
Our client is an entrepreneurial, specialist mortgage lender looking for a senior credit professional to rethink how credit policy is built, applied and continually improved.
This isn’t a defensive credit role.
The business wants someone who can take complex, often narrative credit policy and codify it into clear rules, decision logic and automated processes — creating a credit framework that allows the business to make better decisions, faster and at greater scale.
You’ll use portfolio data, arrears performance, market insight and underwriting experience to continually challenge and evolve credit appetite. Where the evidence supports it, you’ll identify opportunities to push the boundaries of where the business can lend responsibly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
A major part of the role will be working with funders to explain the credit strategy, demonstrate performance and build the evidence for expanding lending parameters. You’ll also remain close enough to the detail to make calls on complex cases.
We’re interested in people who have:
- Strong commercial credit judgement within mortgages, specialist lending or an adjacent property lending environment
- Experience creating or significantly improving credit policy and lending criteria
- A track record of turning complex credit thinking into codified rules and automated decisioning
- Strong data literacy and an instinct for using portfolio performance to improve policy
- The credibility to face off to institutional funders
- An entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable taking calculated risk rather than defaulting to “no”
- The energy and appetite to build, change and improve things rather than simply maintain an existing framework

You don't necessarily need to be a current Director of Credit. A strong number two who is ready to step up could be equally interesting. What matters most is your mindset.
