💻 Job Title: Director of Data Engineering
💰 Comp: £150-250k (DOE)
📍 Location: fully remote anywhere in the UK with planned get togethers
🦄 Company: leading data business
One of the most interesting data leadership mandates I've worked on this year.
Reporting directly to the CIO, and working closely with the rest of the C-suite, this is the most senior Data hire for a leading data business (like being a CISO for a Tier 1 CyberSec firm).
You'd be coming in to:
- Make data the engine of business growth and the foundation the company's AI strategy genuinely depends on
- Own the data strategy and architecture end-to-end - genuinely hands-on, not one level removed from the detail
- Work day-to-day with the CIO, COO, CFO and a senior exec group, aligning a business around a shared source of truth
- Lead and develop a mixed-seniority team spread geographically
- Build trust in the data team and its outputs across the business
- Ensure operational excellence and governance

✅ What we're looking for:
- Strong data engineering background (you may have touched Data Science, Analytics and/or Software Engineering throughout your career, but DE must be your main forte)
- Genuine technical depth in data warehouse architecture, ETL processes, table structures, and reporting — this is a semi hands-on role, not a purely strategic one, and you'd be expected to lead by example when needed
- Track record in fast-paced, ambiguous environments — B2B SaaS, FinTech, PE-backed businesses, leading scale-ups etc.
- Comfortable owning a domain fully, without needing much direction - you'll be the most senior data authority in the business
- Knowledge of data governance, data operations, and compliance standards

👍 Bonus points for:
- Experience with consumption-based or usage-based business models
- Experience managing a geographically distributed team
- Experience developing junior talent
- Experience with Snowflake (certifications welcome)
- AI fluency with daily usage
