Director of Project Development

Utility-Scale Solar & BESS | Texas

Location: Texas, USA
Sector: Renewable Energy - Solar and BESS

Paladin Recruitment Services is representing a large-scale, established renewable energy company with a significant and growing portfolio of utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Project Development to take a senior leadership position within their development team in Texas.

This is an opportunity to join an established organisation operating at scale within the renewable energy sector and play a key role in the continued growth and delivery of its Solar and BESS portfolio.

The Position

The Director of Project Development will take responsibility for leading the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Texas.

You will oversee projects throughout the development lifecycle, from early-stage origination through land acquisition, permitting, interconnection and construction readiness.

Working closely with senior leadership and internal stakeholders, you will play a key role in driving the successful progression of a significant development pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of utility-scale Solar and BESS projects across Texas.
  • Manage projects from early-stage development through to construction readiness.
  • Oversee development strategy across multiple projects and a significant project pipeline.
  • Lead land acquisition activities and manage relationships with landowners.
  • Oversee permitting, environmental and regulatory processes.
  • Manage utility and grid interconnection activities.
  • Coordinate external consultants, advisors and development partners.
  • Identify and manage project risks throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with engineering, commercial, finance and construction teams.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the project development team.
  • Support the continued expansion of the company's utility-scale renewable energy portfolio.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Extensive experience in renewable energy project development.
  • A proven track record delivering utility-scale Solar and/or BESS projects.
  • Strong experience within the Texas or wider US renewable energy market.
  • Significant experience across land acquisition, permitting and interconnection.
  • Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience managing complex development portfolios.
  • Previous leadership experience within a project development function.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and decision-making skills.
