About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to lead the CIDO Office, the strategic function at the heart of NGET’s Digital & IT organisation. Acting as a trusted partner to the Chief Information & Digital Officer (CIDO), you'll play a pivotal role in shaping strategy, driving performance, and ensuring delivery of a digital agenda that supports one of the UK’s most critical infrastructure organisations.
You'll be responsible for translating current and future regulatory investment plans, including T3 and subsequent regulatory periods, into tangible business, regulatory and financial outcomes. Working across a complex stakeholder landscape, you'll orchestrate Digital & IT contributions to major regulatory submissions, ensuring commitments, evidence, dependencies and value cases are aligned, compelling and deliverable.
This is a highly visible leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence investment decisions, drive benefits realisation, assure delivery performance, and help shape the future of NGET's digital transformation journey.
What You'll Do
As Director of Digital Strategy, Governance and Portfolio, you'll sit at the centre of NGET's Digital & IT organisation, ensuring our most critical investments deliver measurable value for the business, customers, and the UK's energy future. Working closely with the CIDO and senior leaders across the organisation, you'll drive performance, shape strategy, and provide the governance needed to successfully deliver a complex and ambitious technology agenda.
In this role, you will:
- Lead performance across NGET's Digital & IT portfolio, ensuring strategic programmes deliver committed business, regulatory, and financial outcomes.
- Oversee the Digital & IT investment plan across T3 and future regulatory periods, balancing priorities, investment decisions, delivery confidence, and benefits realisation.
- Ensure more than £300m of committed benefits are effectively governed, tracked, and realised, intervening where required to keep delivery on course.
- Drive executive-level governance, enabling data-driven investment decisions that focus resources on the initiatives that create the greatest value.
- Lead regulatory assurance and performance reporting, coordinating Digital & IT contributions into major regulatory submissions and ensuring commitments are robust, evidenced, and deliverable.
- Shape the future direction of Digital & IT by influencing strategy, operating models, governance frameworks, and organisational capability.
- Partner with executive, regulatory, and business stakeholders to resolve complex challenges and navigate trade-offs across affordability, risk, capacity, and value.
- Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement, ensuring Digital & IT delivers sustainable outcomes for the organisation.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CIDO, helping to strengthen portfolio discipline, enhance strategic decision-making, and drive the successful delivery of enterprise priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
