About you

The successful candidate will have evidence of higher education to a degree level or equivalent as well as evidence of continuing professional development including regular attendance on internal and external study programmes. The successful candidate must have relevant and substantial experience of student support within an education setting, including a wide range of pastoral support activities. Experience of the interface between these roles and those of Registry officers and other corporate support services is also important. Significant experience of leadership within Higher Education, including management of staff and resources and building teams is also essential. Desired Skills and Experience

The Director of Education and Student Experience (DESE), in partnership with the Vice-Dean (Education) and in collaboration with the Dean and Director of Operations, has overall responsibility for education strategy and operations across the Faculty, ensuring that appropriate action is taken in relation to students, to education delivery, and to matters that impact student experience within the Faculty, in line with UCL policy and that appropriate contributions are made to strategy and policy development.

• They will provide operational advice to senior Faculty Executive and Leadership staff on education related matters and the student experience.
• The DESE exercises general administrative and pastoral oversight of all students (undergraduate, graduate taught and graduate research students) in the Faculty. Working with the Vice-Dean (Education). They hold an important and visible role across UCL with responsibility for faculty education committees/working groups, quality assurance and enhancement processes, and matters pertaining to our students at both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) level.
• Working closely with staff within the Faculty and its constituent Departments, the DESE will provide support and leadership for the Faculty's education staff (both academic and professional services) to develop best practice; ensure compliance and the operation of quality assurance measures in line with UCL policy; and improve Faculty performance in education and student experience. They will work collaboratively with a range of senior colleagues within the Office of the Vice-Provost (Education & Student Experience) (OVPEASE) and Student Registry Services (SRS).
• The DESE, with the Dean, Vice-Dean (Education) and the Director of Operations, provides leadership on the development and implementation of Faculty Learning and Teaching Strategies and the development and review of programmes and modules. They are responsible for ensuring that relevant Faculty staff are aware of and comply with UCL policy and current legislation and liaise as necessary with UCL Officers on such issues and their implementation.
• They will lead the Faculty EASE team, with ultimate responsibility for education administration across the Faculty. They will have oversight of the delivery of an effective and professional support service to support and enhance education and the student experience within the Faculty, working with other managers and business partners across the university to ensure consistency and good practice.
• Working with senior colleagues in the Faculty, the DESE will lead the annual Student Number Planning exercise, managing the following admissions process to ensure that the Faculty meets its targets and conforms with UCL policies.
• The DESE and the Vice-Dean Education coordinate the activities of the Faculty Tutors.
