Our mission is to create a smarter energy future. We are relentless in our focus on tackling the central challenge of our age – the energy transition.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to join AMP as our Director of Engineering, reporting directly to our Chief Executive Officer and joining our Executive Team.

The successful individual will have the opportunity to shape how engineering works across AMP. From the technical decisions made at the earliest stages of a project, through design, construction and commissioning, to the performance and reliability of our operational assets, this role will provide engineering leadership across the full asset lifecycle. The Director of Engineering will hold ultimate technical authority across the business, establishing AMP’s engineering standards and delegated authority framework, providing technical assurance on investment decisions and ensuring that our projects are designed, delivered and handed over to Operations to the standards we expect

  • Provide independent technical assurance throughout project development and delivery, with final technical authority for significant design, technology and engineering decisions.
  • Establish and oversee a robust technical handover process from Delivery into Operations.
  • Provide senior engineering support across our operational portfolio, including the investigation of significant asset failures and ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into future standards and designs.
  • Lead technical due diligence for acquisitions, new technologies and new areas of business.
  • Ensure engineering quality, technical documentation and statutory requirements are maintained to a high standard.
  • Build, lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, creating clear competence standards and supporting the professional development of our engineers.
  • Ensure the technical solutions we develop are not only fit for purpose, but commercially viable and deliver value for money.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
