Are you ready to shape the future of data?

Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform.

In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster.

We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India.

We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.

About the Role

We're looking for a Director of Engineering Productivity & Operations to lead how our engineering organisation builds, delivers and operates the Maia platform. You'll own the strategy and execution behind our engineering productivity agenda, including the evolution of our software development lifecycle towards an increasingly agentic model, alongside the operational disciplines that keep engineering efficient: metrics, reporting, cloud and tooling spend, and vendor management. Working closely with engineering leaders across the business and with Finance, you'll lead a team spanning developer experience, release engineering and CloudOps, and have real scope to shape the role and make it your own.

What you will be doing

  • Setting and leading the engineering productivity strategy, driving the move towards an agentic software delivery model across planning, coding, testing, review and deployment.
  • Owning the roadmap for shared engineering platforms and delivery capabilities, including CI/CD, release automation, observability and the developer experience.
  • Running the engineering operating rhythm and a trusted metrics framework, giving leadership clear visibility of delivery, quality, reliability and cost.
  • Leading engineering FinOps and cloud cost optimisation, working with your CloudOps analysts to build forecasting, accountability and sustainable savings.
  • Managing the engineering tooling portfolio end to end, including vendor evaluation, contract negotiation and renewals, in partnership with Finance, Procurement, Legal and Security.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
