The Centre for International Security and Economic Strategy (CISES) is looking for a Director of Events to help grow our visibility and support our relationships with policymakers, industry practitioners and researchers.
This is a flexible, remote volunteer position, ideal for an experienced events management professional.
The Role:
The Director of Events is a volunteer, part-time, and hybrid position. Ideally this role is based within London or the wider UK, in order to facilitate the management of both hybrid/online (expert panels, webinars) and in-person events (panel discussions, partnership activities). The successful candidate will lead CISES's events strategy, ensuring our events maintain a high standard of professionalism that aligns with our vision and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver CISES's events programme, spanning online expert panels/webinars and in-person panel discussions,
- Identify, approach, and secure suitable speakers and panellists aligned with event topics; building new relationships with policymakers, academics, and industry experts,
- Manage the full events lifecycle: format and topic development, speaker coordination, venue/platform logistics, run-of-show planning, and post-event follow-up.
- Develop and manage partnerships with external institutions (e.g. universities, policy bodies) to co-host and expand CISES's events reach,
- Work with the Digital Communications and Outreach teams to promote events and maximise attendance and engagement,
- Collaborate with the Director of Policy to ensure events align with strategic priorities.

Skills and Qualifications required:
- Experience in event planning, management, or coordination (professional, academic, or extracurricular), covering both online and in-person formats,
- Ability to identify and secure relevant expert speakers on security, geopolitics, defence, or economic policy topics,
- Strong organisational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events/timelines simultaneously,
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills,
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid, volunteer-run environment,
- Based in or able to travel into London for in-person events,
- Previous experience in academia, policy, or at a think tank is desirable.
