Director of Faculty Operations

Reports to Title: Dean of Faculty

Business Function/ Sub-Function: Provost Office / Academic

Location: Any GBS UK campus

Salary: £87-92,000 plus benefits

Role Purpose:

The Director of Faculty Operations is the senior professional services leader within the Faculty and is accountable for ensuring that the Faculty has the operational capability, resources, systems, and processes required to deliver its strategic and operational objectives. Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, they will lead the Faculty's professional services functions, ensuring that operational delivery supports academic priorities, student success, institutional standards, and awarding partner and regulatory requirements. The role is responsible for translating Faculty objectives into effective operational delivery through the leadership of operational teams, effective resource management, robust planning and performance management, and continuous operational improvement. The postholder provides the Dean with timely operational intelligence, performance information, and risk assurance to support effective decision-making and Faculty performance. The Director of Faculty Operations maintains a visible leadership presence across all delivery locations and teaching schedules, ensuring the consistent delivery of services, operational standards, and an equivalent student experience across the Faculty.

Role and Responsibilities:

Faculty Operations

  • Lead Faculty operations across campuses, programmes, and teaching schedules.
  • Translate Faculty priorities and objectives into operational plans and resource requirements.
  • Manage budgets, workforce planning, timetabling, and operational resource allocation.
  • Manage operational risks and maintain continuity of delivery.
  • Resolve operational issues and drive operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Student Success

  • Manage the Student Services function and Faculty student support operations.
  • Maintain processes that support attendance, engagement, continuation, completion, and re-enrolment.
  • Implement operational interventions for students identified as being at risk.
  • Deliver operational initiatives that improve student success and retention.
  • Maintain a consistent student experience across the Faculty.

Performance, Planning, and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop Faculty operational plans and continuous improvement priorities.
  • Maintain management information, performance reporting, and operational dashboards.
  • Provide performance, risk, and exception reporting to the Dean and Faculty leadership team.
  • Identify operational performance concerns and implement corrective action.
  • Use data and management information to drive operational improvement.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Manage the Faculty Quality function.
  • Maintain effective quality assurance, assessment administration, and academic administration processes.
  • Support compliance with institutional, regulatory, and awarding partner requirements.
  • Maintain quality and compliance records, evidence, and documentation.
  • Address compliance risks, process failures, and audit findings.

Leadership

  • Lead and manage professional services staff within the Faculty.
  • Set objectives, performance expectations, and development priorities.
  • Manage performance and address underperformance.
  • Develop the capability and effectiveness of Faculty professional services teams.
  • Build effective working relationships between academic and professional services staff.

Visibility and Operational Presence

  • Maintain a visible and active presence across campuses and delivery schedules.
  • Engage directly with students, academic staff, and professional services teams.
  • Monitor the consistency and effectiveness of Faculty operations through direct engagement with provision.
  • Identify operational risks, delivery issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide the Dean with clear insight into Faculty operations, performance, risks, and priorities.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Significant leadership experience within a UK regulated higher education environment.
  • Experience leading operational and professional services functions, including resources, budget, and people management.
  • Experience using management information, performance metrics, and data analysis to drive improvement and support decision-making.
  • Experience delivering operational change, service improvement, and organizational performance.
  • Experience working within quality assurance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong ability to translate strategic objectives into effective operational delivery.
  • Strong leadership, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain a visible and active presence across multiple delivery locations and teaching schedules.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience within a multi-campus higher education environment.
  • Experience working with awarding partners and external quality assurance bodies.
  • Professional qualifications in management, project management, or quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of UK higher education regulation, quality assurance, and student outcomes requirements.
