Director of Finance

1 FTE / 35 Hours per week
Grade 9, £58,225 - £67,468

Who we’re looking for:

We are seeking an experienced, qualified finance professional to join our University Leadership Group as Director of Finance. You will be a CCAB-qualified accountant with substantial senior-level financial management experience, excellent analytical skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across a complex organisation. This is an outstanding opportunity for a strategic, operational and collaborative leader who is passionate about delivering robust financial stewardship while supporting the University's ambitious Marjon 2030 vision.

What you’d be doing:

As Director of Finance, in collaboration with the Chief Finance & Operating Officer you will lead and manage the University's finance function, providing strategic and operational financial leadership that supports the delivery of Marjon 2030. Working closely with academic and professional service leaders, you will drive continuous improvement, enhance financial processes and lead the development of a high-performing finance team. You will be responsible for financial accounting, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, procurement oversight, tax compliance, insurance arrangements and the production of accurate financial information to inform decision-making across the University.

You’ll need to enjoy:

  • Leading and developing people: motivating teams, building capability and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Using data to make decisions: analysing complex financial information and translating it into meaningful insights.
  • Building relationships and influencing others: collaborating effectively with senior leaders, external partners and stakeholders.
  • Driving change: identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and financial performance across the University.
  • Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
