Company Description

1783 is a London-based specialty insurance broker. We are building a different kind of broker: one that runs on software, data and speed rather than headcount, and that competes unapologetically on behalf of our clients.

Role Description

We are hiring the person who will run the finance and operations of that company. Not a reporting function bolted on to the side of the business, but the engine that makes it work.

You will own the numbers end to end: financial control, cash, forecasting, board reporting and the financial workstream. You will own operations: the systems, processes and controls that let a lean broking team place complex risk across international markets without dropping anything. You will be in the room for every decision that matters.

This is a hands-on job. If you want scope, autonomy and the chance to build the operating model of a company rather than inherit one, this is that role. If you want a well-defined lane, it is not.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications

We care about what you have done and how you think, far more than titles.

  • You have built or run finance in a fast growing company and know what it takes to get from founder-led spreadsheets to investor-grade reporting
  • You are rigorous with numbers: planning, budgeting, financial statements and the discipline to keep them honest under pressure
  • You use data to make decisions, not to decorate them
  • You have designed and implemented operations, processes and internal controls, and you have opinions about which ones actually matter
  • You lead by doing. You can develop and run a multidisciplinary team, and you are comfortable doing the work yourself
  • You communicate with clarity to investors, advisers and regulators
  • Experience in insurance, financial services or another regulated environment is a strong advantage. A professional finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) helps; the ability to operate in ambiguity matters more
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom
