About the Independent Federation for Safeguarding

The Independent Federation for Safeguarding (IfS) is a professional body dedicated to empowering those who protect children, young people and adults. IfS was founded to ensure every individual with safeguarding responsibilities—particularly Designated Safeguarding Leads, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads and Designated Safeguarding Officers—has the knowledge, skills, and support they need to protect children, young people and adults effectively. We provide training, supervision and support.

Purpose of the Role

To lead the development and delivery of a sustainable income generation strategy that supports the mission and growth of the Independent Federation for Safeguarding (IfS) through fundraising, grant acquisition, donor engagement, partnerships, and strategic development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  • Diversify income streams to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Identify emerging funding opportunities and market trends.

Donor and Supporter Engagement

  • Develop strong relationships with major donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate supporters.
  • Oversee donor stewardship and retention programmes.
  • Promote a culture of supporter engagement and philanthropy.

Grants and Contracts

  • Lead grant application and bid development processes.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting obligations.
  • Monitor funding performance and impact delivery.

Partnerships and Business Development

  • Build strategic partnerships with organisations, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Identify collaborative opportunities aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Support organisational growth and innovation initiatives.

Leadership and Governance

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in safeguarding, charity, social impact, or membership organisations.
  • Experience securing government or statutory funding.
  • Fundraising and business development experience.
  • Demonstrable success in securing substantial income from diverse sources.
  • Experience managing strategic partnerships.
  • Experience leading teams and delivering growth strategies.

Terms of the Role

This is a voluntary leadership position, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 7 hours per week. The role is flexible and can be undertaken remotely, with meetings arranged electronically as appropriate. The successful applicant will work closely with the CFO and other members of the Federation's leadership team. The appointment will be subject to the Federation's usual recruitment, safeguarding and eligibility processes.
