Director of Income Generation and Enterprise

Contract Term:

Permanent contract, working 28 hours per week.

Salary:

£50,000 FTE per annum (£37,837.84 pro rata per annum)

Location:

Based at ONSIDE’s Head Office, Williamson House, 14 Charles Street, Worcester, WR1 2AQ

About the Role:

This new and exciting function will play a key role across ONSIDE, helping to further grow and build the organisation to enable us to do even more to support people across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Responsibilities fall into three main areas:

Income Generation & Fundraising:

  • This post will be responsible for developing, diversifying and broadening fundraising activity and income streams.
  • Key areas will include the development of paid for services, the evolution of MIX, ONSIDE's social enterprise café and the growth of key strategic partnerships and fundraising opportunities.

Marketing:

  • This role will oversee the marketing and communication function, increase brand awareness and build the profile of ONSIDE externally.

Contribution to the Executive Team and overall organisation:

  • This role will be central in supporting ONSIDE’s business development goals and as a key member of the Executive Team.
  • Taking a creative and collaborative approach to identifying opportunities for growth and looking to innovate, extend and enhance the reach and impact of ONSIDE’s services and support options.

Key Responsibilities:

Income Generation and Fundraising:

  • Take an innovative approach to generate income through the development of paid for services.
  • Implement ONSIDE’s business development strategy through the development and expansion of social enterprises and new business initiatives.
  • Create opportunities for wider business and corporate partnerships to generate income through joint working, sponsorship and fundraising support.
  • Increase the number of members ONSIDE has, raising awareness of the charity and allowing local people to shape and input into the direction of the organisation.
  • Oversee the development of an annual calendar of fundraising events.
  • Expand the opportunities at Mix (ONSIDE's Social Enterprise Café) to create further income generation.
  • Maintain an up-to-date pipeline of potential opportunities.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Oversee the marketing and communications team across all areas of their work.
  • Support the development of a Marketing and Communications Strategy.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to oversee development of a new website.
  • Work with the Heads of Service and Service Delivery Managers to align marketing efforts with overall business strategy.

Leadership and Executive Team:

  • Play an active role within the executive team to develop and implement strategy and contribute to the effective leadership of the organisation.
  • Ensure the vision and ethos of the organisation is reflected in all activities.
  • Work within the organisation’s quality framework and standards.
  • Provide written and/or verbal reports to the Chief Executive, trustees and funders as required.
  • Contribute to the development of relevant policies, procedures and working practices to ensure the safe and effective delivery of ONSIDE’s services.

Other Responsibilities:

  • This role may involve working in different locations and will require you to travel across the counties of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. The ability and means to travel independently are essential.

Essential Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Significant senior-level experience of developing, launching and growing social enterprises, paid-for services, trading activities or small businesses.
  • Strong understanding of business development, income generation, fundraising, marketing, communications and audience development within a charity, social-purpose or complex organisational environment.
  • Strong understanding of public-service commissioning and the opportunities and constraints facing charities and social-purpose organisations.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant governance, legal and regulatory requirements, including data protection, safeguarding, ethical practice and risk management.
  • Understanding of person-centred practice, co-production and the ethical development of paid-for services.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, financial modelling, pricing, forecasting, investment cases and contribution models.

Experience:

  • Proven track record of creating sustainable and diversified income streams and developing viable business models that balance commercial performance with social purpose.
  • Experience of identifying and developing new markets, opportunities, products and services, including market testing, proposition development and taking well-judged commercial risks.
  • Substantial experience of mobilising complex projects and new services from concept through to delivery, including business planning, governance, resource allocation, quality assurance and operational systems.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering organisation-wide income-generation strategies across earned income, commissioned services, fundraising, corporate and community partnerships and other appropriate income sources.
  • Successful experience of leading fundraising, public-facing and income-generating events, including budgets, sponsorship, partnerships, audience development, compliance, evaluation and return on investment.
  • Strong track record of leading marketing, communications, brand and audience-development activity to raise awareness, strengthen reputation and generate demand.
  • Demonstrable success in converting stakeholder, community and supporter engagement into tangible outcomes, including income, fundraising, volunteering, partnerships, referrals and customer uptake.
  • Experience of developing clear customer and supporter journeys that build long-term engagement, value and loyalty.
  • Experience of setting and managing significant budgets, monitoring income pipelines, forecasting performance and using meaningful performance indicators to drive accountability and delivery.
  • Proven ability to build productive relationships and negotiate effectively with commissioners, customers, funders, businesses, community organisations and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Successful experience of leading, developing and integrating multidisciplinary teams across enterprise, business development, marketing, communications, fundraising and events.
  • Experience of operating effectively as a member of a senior leadership team, contributing to organisation-wide strategy, transformation and change, and providing clear advice to trustees or governors.

Desirable:

  • Qualification or equivalent experience in business development, enterprise, fundraising, marketing, communications, leadership, management or a related discipline.
  • Experience of working within the charity, voluntary, community or social enterprise sector.
  • Experience of working within advocacy, mental health or other person-centred support services.
  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing charities and voluntary and community sector organisations.
  • Experience of developing corporate, community and strategic partnerships to support income generation and organisational growth.
  • Experience of using digital channels, insight and data to develop audiences, generate demand and improve customer or supporter journeys.
