Job Purpose
The Director of Insights & Strategy is responsible for leading New West End Company's insight, research and analytical capability, ensuring robust data and evidence underpin decision-making across the organisation.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and working as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the role will shape NWEC's insight strategy, delivering high-quality market intelligence, research and business analytics that support member services, advocacy, business planning and organisational performance.
Working collaboratively across all departments, the Director will embed a culture of evidence-based decision-making, ensuring insight informs campaigns, strategic priorities, investment decisions and operational planning. The role will also champion innovation in analytics, AI and business intelligence, ensuring NWEC remains at the forefront of insight-led decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Insight
- Lead and continuously develop NWEC's insight, research and analytical capability, ensuring it remains market-leading and responsive to member needs.
- Develop and deliver an organisational insight strategy aligned to NWEC's strategic objectives.
- Ensure NWEC is recognised as a trusted authority on retail, consumer, visitor, office and property market intelligence.
- Identify emerging trends affecting London's West End and communicate their implications to the Senior Leadership Team, Board and members.
- Promote a culture of evidence-based decision-making across the organisation.
Business Planning & Strategy
- Partner with Directors and Heads of Department to ensure business plans, campaigns and operational initiatives are informed by robust research and data.
- Support the development of organisational strategy through evidence, forecasting, benchmarking and performance analysis.
- Challenge assumptions and provide independent analytical advice to support Senior Leadership Team decision-making.
- Produce business cases, strategic analysis and market intelligence to support investment decisions and organisational priorities.
- Help departments evaluate the impact of initiatives and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Member Insights & Research
- Lead the design, delivery and continuous development of NWEC's member insight programme.
- Own the annual Member Satisfaction Survey and other member research projects.
- Translate research findings into practical recommendations and support departments in delivering measurable improvements.
- Develop new insight products and services that enhance member value.
- Build strong relationships with members to understand changing information requirements.
- Present research findings and market intelligence to members, Board and external stakeholders.

Advocacy & Thought Leadership
- Lead the production of evidence, research and economic analysis that supports NWEC's advocacy agenda.
- Work closely with Corporate Affairs to strengthen policy papers, consultation responses and stakeholder engagement.
- Produce thought leadership reports that reinforce NWEC's reputation as the leading authority on London's West End economy.
- Monitor national and international retail, economic, tourism and consumer trends and assess their implications for the district.
- Represent NWEC at conferences, member events and external stakeholder meetings.
Organisational Performance & Business Intelligence
- Lead the development of organisational KPI frameworks, dashboards and performance reporting.
- Support departments in defining meaningful measures of success aligned to organisational objectives.
- Produce regular internal insight briefings highlighting emerging trends, risks and opportunities.
- Develop dashboards and reporting that enable the SLT and Board to monitor organisational performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve forecasting, planning and operational effectiveness through better use of data.
AI, Data & Innovation
- Champion the use of AI, automation and emerging analytical technologies across the organisation.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, forecasting and insight generation through technology.
- Act as business lead for insight-related systems and analytical platforms.
- Support the development and optimisation of CRM and business intelligence platforms, including HubSpot and other analytical systems.
- Keep abreast of developments in AI, analytics and data science, recommending innovative solutions that enhance organisational capability.
Supplier & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with external data providers, research organisations and technology partners.
- Ensure suppliers deliver high-quality services, value for money and contractual compliance.
- Evaluate new data sources, technologies and partnerships that strengthen NWEC's insight capability.
- Build collaborative relationships with public sector bodies, commercial partners and industry organisations.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach and develop the Insights Analyst.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the insight function delivers high-quality outputs that meet organisational priorities.
- Promote knowledge sharing and analytical capability across NWEC.

Requirements
- Significant experience leading an insights, analytics, business intelligence or research function
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- Demonstrable experience translating complex data into practical business recommendations
- Experience influencing strategic decision-making at Executive or Board level
- Experience developing KPI frameworks and organisational performance reporting
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and external partners
- Experience managing external research, technology and data suppliers
- Strong knowledge of analytical tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx and Excel
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to a range of audiences
- Experience within retail, property, destination management, economic development, consultancy or a similar environment
- Experience using AI-enabled analytical tools and automation
- Experience working with CRM and business intelligence platforms
- Understanding of public policy, local government or urban regeneration would be beneficial
- Curious, innovative and forward-thinking, with a strong focus on continuous improvement
- Collaborative and commercially minded, with strong judgement and the ability to manage multiple priorities
