Director of Integrated Quality Governance
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional leader to join the Trust as Director of Integrated Quality Governance.
Reporting jointly to the Deputy Trust Chief Executive and Chief Nursing Officer and the Joint Chief Medical Officer, this is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for the strategic delivery of clinical governance across one of the largest and most complex NHS organisations in the UK.
Leading a broad portfolio, you will be accountable for the delivery of clinical governance, patient safety, clinical effectiveness, patient experience, quality assurance, organisational learning, risk management and regulatory compliance. You will ensure that governance intelligence is translated into meaningful improvement, supporting high-quality care and delivering better outcomes for patients.
The postholder will provide strategic leadership across the Trust's governance functions, ensuring robust systems are in place to identify and manage risk, support learning, provide assurance and drive continuous improvement. Working closely with senior clinical, operational and corporate leaders, you will strengthen quality, reduce unwarranted variation and help embed a culture of learning, improvement and accountability across the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
