Director of Legal Services & Enforcement (Relocation to Bermuda)
The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Bermuda; the client will cover relocation costs.
We’re recruiting on behalf of our client in Bermuda for an accomplished Director of Legal Services & Enforcement to provide strategic legal leadership across the organisation.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this is a senior leadership position responsible for providing legal counsel to executive leadership and the Board, overseeing complex legal and enforcement matters, managing external counsel, and leading the organisation’s legal function. The successful candidate will combine strong technical legal expertise with proven leadership, governance and stakeholder management experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice to the Board, Chief Executive and senior leadership on complex legal, governance and organisational matters.
- Lead the legal function, managing and developing senior legal professionals while establishing effective processes, priorities and performance standards.
- Oversee significant disputes, litigation and enforcement matters, working with external counsel to determine strategy, assess risk and recommend appropriate outcomes.
- Manage the appointment, performance and cost-effectiveness of external legal counsel and other specialist advisors.
- Draft, review and advise on complex legal documents, decisions, policies and other formal materials.
- Provide legal oversight for major organisational initiatives, transactions and stakeholder matters.
- Advise senior leadership on legislative developments, emerging legal risks and matters that may impact the organisation.
- Support strong corporate governance, including Board-related matters, formal decision-making and appropriate legal documentation.
- Manage departmental planning and budgets while ensuring the effective allocation of internal and external legal resources.

Qualifications & Experience

- Master’s degree in Law from an accredited university.
- Professional qualification/certification in legislative drafting.
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ post-qualification legal experience, including significant senior-level experience.
- At least five (5) years’ experience leading attorneys, including senior legal professionals, and managing external counsel.
- Demonstrated experience advising executive leadership and Boards on complex legal and corporate governance matters.
- Strong experience managing litigation, disputes, enforcement or other complex legal proceedings.
- Proven leadership capability, including developing legal talent, managing performance and building effective teams.
- Experience developing and managing departmental budgets and external legal expenditure.
- Exceptional legal drafting, written communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
