Role Summary
The Director of Membership will provide maternity cover for a six to eight month fixed-term period, leading the delivery of The Conduit’s existing membership strategy and ensuring continuity across membership growth, retention and engagement. This is a senior, commercially driven role requiring strong business development skills, a deep understanding of the impact sector and the ability to quickly take ownership of an established membership function.
The ideal candidate will combine strategic judgement with hands-on operational execution and be comfortable stepping into an established senior role. They will maintain momentum against agreed priorities, identify opportunities to strengthen acquisition and retention, and deliver exceptional value for our community of changemakers throughout the maternity cover period.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Strategy & Growth
- Deliver the agreed membership strategy, maintaining focus on commercial growth, retention and engagement throughout the fixed-term period.
- Drive new member acquisition through targeted campaigns, partnerships, and leveraging personal networks in the impact space.
- Review and optimise existing membership propositions and packages where appropriate, ensuring they remain competitive, mission-aligned and valuable to members.
- Track KPIs and budgets, providing regular reporting and using data to optimise performance.
Community Building, Retention & Engagement
- Foster an inclusive, vibrant, and purpose-driven community aligned with The Conduit’s ethos.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver high-calibre events, thought leadership sessions, and networking opportunities.
- Implement initiatives that deepen engagement, strengthen peer-to-peer connections, and enhance member satisfaction.
- Act as a visible ambassador for members, building meaningful relationships.
Operational & Commercial Leadership
- Take ownership of the membership P&L during the maternity cover period, ensuring revenue targets, budgets and operational standards remain on track.
- Oversee the entire member journey—from onboarding to renewal—ensuring a seamless and premium experience.
- Use data insights to refine offerings and ensure member value.

Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and support the Membership team during the maternity cover period, providing clear direction, continuity and accountability against agreed priorities.
- Set clear KPIs and ensure delivery against ambitious acquisition and retention targets.
Member Conduct Management
- Take an active role in developing strategies and oversee communications to monitor behaviour in the club.
- Ensure all member-related issues are managed consistently and in line with The Conduit’s policies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in membership, business development, partnerships or community leadership, with the confidence to step into a senior fixed-term leadership role quickly.
- Proven ability to deliver commercial results, manage P&L, and scale membership programmes.
- Strong network in the impact and sustainability sectors.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Passion for social and environmental impact, with a proven track record in community development.
