DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Job Summary
Christ Church Bexleyheath is a large and thriving town centre church. The choral tradition is at the heart of our Sunday worship and we are keen to find a Director of Music who can inspire and help develop the musical life of the church. We have an adult SATB choir, a junior choir and an accomplished organist, who plays our magnificent Hunter organ. Our weekly Sunday services are at 10am (Sung Eucharist with motet) and 6pm (BCP Evensong with hymns and anthem). Choir practices are on Friday evenings during term times.
The main roles of the Director of Music will be to lead and conduct the adult choir and the junior choir, and to select the music to be sung each week in keeping with the liturgy and church calendar. There may also be an opportunity to be involved in directing or playing with our worship band/music group, which plays once a month.
Key Relationships
The Director of Music is accountable to the Vicar. The Director of Music must maintain good working relationships with the choir, other clergy and lay ministers in the Parish.

General Duties
- Directing the choir at morning service (10am) and evening service (6pm) on Sundays.
- In addition to Sunday services, such duties are also required for major weekday Festivals such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Ascension, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day etc.
- Leading choir practices, which are held on Friday evenings for children and adults.
- Responsible for choosing choir music.
- Working with the Vicar to prepare music lists for services.
- Responsible for arranging cover during agreed absence.
- Outreach initiatives to foster new members of the junior and senior choir.
- Other activities, as agreed, to support the development of the musical life of the church.

- Enthusiasm and passion for developing the musical life of the church.
- A heart for worship and liturgy in the Anglican tradition.
- Warm, encouraging presence that builds confidence in singers of all ages.
- Patience and adaptability, especially when working with children or mixed-ability groups.
- Creativity and vision to help grow the musical life of the church and develop both choirs.
- Reliability and professionalism, modelling good timekeeping, preparation, and communication.
- Inclusive approach, valuing and welcoming people from all backgrounds and abilities.

Holiday
The Director of Music is entitled to six weeks’ paid holiday (including six Sundays) per calendar year. However, this should not include Holy Week, Advent, Christmas and other major Festivals.
