Director of Nursing

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Nursing based in the United Kingdom.

This is a senior clinical leadership opportunity focused on strengthening nursing excellence across a global network of pediatric surgical hospitals.

The role combines strategic leadership, operational improvement, patient safety, workforce development, and nursing informatics.

You will mentor nursing leaders across diverse cultural and healthcare environments while establishing consistent standards of care.

Your work will help improve clinical outcomes, patient flow, workforce capability, and the quality of care delivered to children and families.

The position requires an experienced leader who can translate strategy into practical systems and measurable improvements across multiple sites.

You will collaborate closely with medical, quality, HR, IT, and hospital leadership teams to advance clinical and operational priorities.

Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic nursing leadership across a multi-country hospital network, mentoring and supporting nursing leaders while promoting consistency, accountability, and clinical excellence.
  • Champion patient safety and quality by establishing nursing best practices, standardizing care approaches, and partnering with hospitals to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Strengthen the nursing workforce through leadership coaching, competency development, mentorship programs, succession planning, and broader capacity-building initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence by improving nursing workflows, supporting workforce planning and staffing strategies, optimizing patient flow, and using clinical data to inform decisions.
  • Lead initiatives across key nursing domains, including leadership development, training, quality assurance, EMR utilization, data integrity, workforce planning, and patient flow.
  • Support the effective implementation and adoption of EMR/EHR systems, ensuring strong end-user engagement and reliable clinical data.
  • Develop and apply patient safety, quality improvement, and accreditation frameworks across diverse healthcare settings.
  • Collaborate with medical, quality, HR, IT, and hospital leadership teams to strengthen healthcare delivery and align nursing operations with organizational priorities.
  • Advocate for nursing professionals and promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and servant leadership.
  • Navigate varied cultural, clinical, and resource environments to implement sustainable improvements across multiple facilities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Nursing Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, such as an MSN or MHA.
  • At least 10 years of progressive nursing experience, including a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership, network, or multi-site roles.
  • Proven international leadership experience in cross-cultural and/or resource-limited healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead clinical and operational transformation across multiple locations or at significant organizational scale.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an active, unrestricted license in the country of residence and eligibility for licensure or registration in the country of assignment.
  • Hands-on experience leading end-user implementation and adoption of EMR/EHR systems.
  • Strong expertise in patient safety, clinical quality improvement, nursing informatics, and healthcare accreditation frameworks.
  • Strong operational and systems-thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate strategy into effective implementation.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse healthcare environments.
  • High emotional intelligence, adaptability, empathy, and demonstrated ability to lead organizational change.
  • Fluency in English is required; French proficiency is desirable.
  • A doctorate such as a DNP or PhD in Nursing Leadership is preferred.
  • Experience in global health, pediatric surgical care, or resource-limited healthcare settings is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant specialty or leadership certifications, such as NEA-BC, CPHQ, or CPNP, are advantageous.
