As an integral part of Exeter Senior Management Team, you will support the development of the Charity’s overall strategy and be accountable for ensuring operational performance is focused on service excellence. You will contribute to our purpose to build a healthier nation by providing leadership to a broad range of non-clinical services across your hospital to deliver the highest standards of performance and customer service to all key stakeholders.

Operations include, but are not limited to, business development, process improvement, facilities management, housekeeping, administration, communication, information governance, health & safety, third party providers, maintenance and service contract delivery.

As Director of Operations, you will:

  • Support the Hospital Director and Director of Clinical Services leading and developing the Hospital ensuring that performance exceeds agreed quality and financial targets
  • Provide clear leadership and direction for specific services within the organisation, in line with Nuffield Health strategic goals
  • Share knowledge, expertise, best practice and efficient, effective ways of working across the site and with colleagues in Nuffield Health.
  • Budget management – to develop budgets to support the service functions with accountability for working within budgets; and providing timely management information
  • Provide insight to help shape the local self-pay pricing strategy to ensure local competitiveness
  • Deliver a patient pathway that ensure high levels of customer service to all patients
  • Endorse the charity’s connected service propositions to the local consumer market in line with the Hospital's sales plan
  • Guarantee the delivery of the Hospitals growth plans and achievement of revenue targets through service development activities.
  • Foster a cross-functional working relationship with other hospitals in the region, looking at opportunities to share resource and knowledge.
  • Coach, mentor and role model a ‘Customer First’ culture.

As Director of Operations, you will need to have:

  • Significant, proven commercial experience ideally in a hospital setting
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Financial management experience and analytical skills
  • Experience of managing outsourced services
  • Project management experience

Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital

At Exeter Nuffield hospital is based next to the RD&E hospital in Wonford, Exeter. The hospital has 2 theatres, as well as a hybrid cardiac catheter laboratory/theatre and an Endoscopy suite. There are two ward areas: an inpatient area with 21 beds and a cardiology day case ward with 12 beds. We also have a busy outpatient department, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and radiology department including an MRI scanner. We specialise in elective orthopaedic and spinal surgery, cardiology including invasive procedures, general surgery, plastics and cosmetic surgery, ENT, and gynaecology. The Hospital has 2 MAKO robots that undertakes some of the joint replacement surgery which we have become well known for in this field of surgery.
