Impulse London is recruiting a new Director to lead our Operations Team
Make a visible, positive impact on the gay community by volunteering with Impulse London. Give back to the community by leading a team of volunteers dedicated to ensuring we deliver effective events and run efficiently to achieve our mission.
Who are we?
Impulse London is a chapter of Impulse Group, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to building a stronger and healthier community for gay men. Our work in London focuses on the intersections of mental health & sexual health, HIV prevention & testing, harm reduction, chemsex, social justice, and community connection.
Hosting more than 400 events annually across 26 cities worldwide, Impulse Group creates brave spaces where members of the community can engage, receive support and build meaningful connection. We are an international network of 26 chapters around the globe, and we are affiliated with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a global organisation working across HIV prevention, testing, treatment and advocacy.

The role
The new Operations Director will lead a team of approximately five volunteers and be a member of the Board of Directors. The Operations Team supports the organisation behind the scenes and helps ensure that our projects are coordinated, inclusive and delivered effectively. The Operations Director manages our budget, ensures events and tasks stay on track and are completed on time, and evaluates the effectiveness of our events and programs.

Leading the team will require you to delegate tasks to volunteers, provide appropriate making sure tasks are completed, and support members so they stay engaged with Impulse London and continue to volunteer with us. As a member of the Board, you will join the leadership team of Impulse London, helping to set the direction for our chapter in alignment with the wider Impulse Group.
Time commitment
Volunteer commitments are flexible and designed to work around employment, studies and other responsibilities. Directors contribute approximately two to three hours per week, depending on the tasks assigned to the Operations Team. Impulse London holds monthly meetings for all members and Directors meet an additional once per month.
Examples of our work
- Chemtrail: This is Killing Us, our exhibition exploring chemsex, harm reduction and community experiences, which welcomed approximately 500 visitors over two days and received coverage from LGBTQ+ and London media outlets.
- World AIDS Day: We Look Back, We Live On, a community event combining remembrance, education and advocacy around HIV, U=U and the lives of people affected by the epidemic.
- Grind Date, a live dating and social-connection event at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, designed to reduce loneliness, encourage offline connection and create conversations around dating, intimacy and queer community.
- Community outreach and HIV testing delivered in partnership with health organisations and LGBTQ+ venues.
- Exhibitions, panels, screenings, workshops and campaigns addressing mental health, sexual health, substance use, stigma and queer wellbeing.

Impulse London is a volunteer-led organisation, and these are unpaid roles. Reasonable project-related expenses are covered, and food and refreshments are provided during in-person meetings and activities.
