Director of Operations & Governance
Location: Flexible / Hybrid - Going to the London or Leeds office up to two times per week
Reporting to: Managing Director of Commercial & Delegated Authority
Role Type: Permanent
Regulatory Status: Senior Manager Function (SMF3)
Salary: Up to £110,000 - Dependant on experience

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Managing Director of Commercial & Delegated Authority, the Director of Operations & Governance will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational effectiveness, governance and control environment across the Commercial and Delegated Authority businesses. As the designated SMF3, you will hold directly accountability for ensuring the business operates with integrity, financial resilience and full regulatory compliance, whilst maintaining the highest standards of governance, conduct and customer outcomes. while acting as a key partner to the Managing Director and wider leadership team.
What You'll Be Doing
Strategic Operations & Transformation
- Drive operational excellence, process optimisation and continuous improvement across Commercial and Delegated Authority.
- Lead strategic platform development, including the future transition from Bspoke Online to Acturis.
- Utilise data, MI and automation to improve efficiency, performance and customer outcomes.
Governance, Conduct & Regulatory Leadership
- Fulfil all responsibilities associated with the SMF3 designation.
- Lead governance, conduct and regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance with FCA, SM&CR and Consumer Duty requirements.
- Oversee Product Governance, Conduct Risk and Fair Value Assessment activity, acting as the senior escalation point for governance and compliance matters.
Delegated Authority Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight of Delegated Authority governance, audit activity and control frameworks.
- Maintain strong capacity partner confidence through robust governance, compliance and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team, building future leadership capability and succession strength.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and conduct excellence.
About You
You'll be an experienced insurance leader with a strong background in operations, governance and regulatory oversight, capable of balancing commercial priorities with strong control environments.

Essential Experience
- Significant senior leadership experience within an MGA, insurer or broker environment.
- Proven experience operating within a highly regulated FCA environment, including accountability for governance, risk, compliance and conduct frameworks.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across operational, governance, risk and control functions.
- Strong track record of delivering operational transformation, platform change and business improvement programmes.
- Experience working with executive leadership teams to develop and deliver strategic business plans.
- Ability to meet FCA requirements for appointment as an SMF3.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of FCA regulations, SM&CR, Senior Manager Conduct Rules, Consumer Duty and Product Governance requirements.
- Strong understanding of Conduct Risk, Delegated Authority governance, audit frameworks and operational controls.
- Strong operational design, systems thinking and process optimisation capability.
- Ability to leverage management information, data and performance metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
