Aru Labs | Project-based opportunity
Aru Labs is looking for a Director of Photography (DOP) / Cinematographer for an upcoming independent web-series project being produced for a client.
This is a project-based opportunity, not a permanent position at Aru Labs.
The series is a character-driven story exploring startups, ambition, relationships, friendship, money and life.
We are looking for someone who can help shape the visual identity of the series from the ground up and work closely with the Director throughout pre-production and production.
What you'll do
- Develop the visual language and cinematography approach for the series
- Work closely with the Director on the visual storytelling
- Plan camera, lenses, lighting and equipment requirements
- Recommend and help build the camera and lighting team
- Participate in location and technical planning
- Lead cinematography during production
- Work with the 1st AD and production team to plan practical shooting setups
- Help conduct a short test shoot before principal photography
- Maintain visual consistency across episodes and locations
- Collaborate with the Director to create a cinematic but authentic visual style

What we're looking for
- Strong cinematography portfolio or showreel
- Good understanding of camera systems, lenses, lighting and composition
- Strong visual storytelling instincts
- Comfortable working with a lean, independent production team
- Ability to work collaboratively with a first-time Director
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience in films, web series, short films, music videos, commercials or digital storytelling is welcome
- You don't need to have worked on a large studio production.
- We're interested in your visual eye, storytelling ability and ability to build something from the ground up.
Working arrangement
- Remote: Yes, during pre-production
- Travel: Required during production
- Engagement: Project-based / contract
- Production window: Late November – early December
- Potential locations: San Francisco, Bali and other global startup hubs
- International and India-based candidates are welcome.

The goal is to build a small, capable and collaborative crew, rather than a large traditional production setup.
