At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.
Market Vets, part of ivc, are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Director of Practice to lead two closely located practices and play a pivotal role in their continued growth and success. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded leader who enjoys balancing people, performance and business strategy. You don’t need a clinical background, what matters is your ability to lead, inspire and develop teams while delivering strong operational and commercial results.
You’ll lead a team of more than 40 people across reception, administration, client care, veterinary and nursing teams, creating an environment where people feel supported, engaged and motivated to perform at their best.
With strong local competition, we’re looking for someone with real commercial acumen who can identify opportunities, drive sustainable growth and ensure the practices continue to thrive. You’ll take ownership of the full P&L, annual business planning and budgetary performance, while supporting excellent client engagement, retention and clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operational, commercial, and financial performance of the veterinary practices, working in partnership with the Clinical Directors to achieve business and clinical objectives.
- Drive business growth through strategic planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and effective management of practice performance and budgets.
- Build, engage, and develop a high-performing team culture by providing leadership, coaching, and effective resource management.
- Ensure the delivery of exceptional clinical standards, regulatory compliance, and outstanding client and patient care across all locations.
- Champion a safe, compliant, and collaborative working environment while supporting the implementation of company goals and best practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
