North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) is seeking an exceptional public health leader to join our Leadership Team as Director of Public Health, Inclusion and Population Health.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the health and wellbeing of over 3 million people across North East London and Essex, leading our strategic ambition to improve population health, reduce health inequalities, advance inclusion, and champion anti-racist practice.
Working directly to the Deputy Chief Executive, you will drive system-wide change, influence our partnerships, and ensure that prevention, equity and inclusion are embedded across everything we do.
About The Role
As our senior public health lead, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership for population health, inclusion and health equity.
- Lead the development and delivery of NELFT's population health strategy.
- Influence Integrated Care Systems, local authorities, provider collaboratives and voluntary sector partners.
- Champion anti-racism, inclusion and equitable access to services.
- Drive improvements in outcomes for communities experiencing disadvantage and poorer health.
- Lead health needs assessments, population health intelligence and evidence-based interventions.
- Work across mental health, community health, children's and specialist services.
- Support the Trust's Health Equity Committee, PCREF programme and quality improvement agenda.
- Shape population health research, innovation and training across the organisation.
About You
We are looking for an inspirational leader with:
Essential
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List, or UK Public Health Register (or eligible within six months).
- Significant senior public health leadership experience.
- A proven track record of delivering change across organisational boundaries.
- Expertise in health inequalities, population health improvement and prevention.
- Strong analytical skills and experience translating complex evidence into action.
- Exceptional partnership, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A deep understanding of the NHS, local government and wider health and care systems.

Desirable
- Master's degree in Public Health or equivalent.
- Experience in media engagement and public communications.
- Educational Supervisor accreditation or willingness to achieve this.
On-call Requirement
You will be required to participate in the Trustwide on-call rota.
Salary
Salary Will Be Either
- NHS Consultant (dependent on experience and qualifications) and London Weighting - 10 PAs for week, or
- NHS Agenda for Change Band 9 including High Cost Area Supplement and On-call allowance - 37.5 hours per week

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period.
High Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,870 and a maximum payment of £6,137 per annum, pro rata for part time).
On-call Allowance Payment
This post will be required to participate in the Trust on-call rota and attracts a payment of 0.75% of the basic salary.
