Group Regulatory Affairs Manager

Salary: Competitive
Location: Milton Keynes
Working Arrangement: Hybrid – minimum 60% of working time at an office or business site, with the remainder available for home working
Contract: Permanent, full-time

Overview

Our client, a major automotive organisation, is seeking a Group Regulatory Affairs Manager to lead its Product and Environmental Regulation and Compliance team. This senior role is responsible for overseeing the regulatory and compliance framework across the organisation's automotive brands and aftersales activities. The successful candidate will provide leadership on product, environmental, safety and legislative requirements, ensuring vehicles, parts, chemicals, products and services placed on the UK market comply with applicable UK and EU regulations.

The role combines strategic regulatory leadership with operational delivery, requiring close collaboration with senior leaders, cross-functional teams and multiple business areas. You will also lead the development of a strong compliance culture and ensure emerging regulatory obligations are identified, assessed and implemented effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product and Environmental Regulation and Compliance team, managing performance and delivering results through others.
  • Oversee the regulatory and compliance framework across multiple automotive brands and group functions.
  • Ensure vehicles, products, parts, chemicals and services placed on the UK market comply with applicable regulatory, legislative, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Monitor existing and emerging UK and EU regulations and assess their potential impact on the business.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and advise business functions on the actions required to maintain compliance.
  • Direct and coordinate the implementation of regulatory and compliance actions through to completion.
  • Lead mandated regulatory monitoring and compliance processes covering the end-to-end lifecycle of vehicles, parts and chemicals.
  • Establish effective governance arrangements to identify and mitigate regulatory, legal and reputational risks.
  • Lead cross-functional and cross-business working groups on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including Board-level leaders.
  • Negotiate, influence and provide authoritative guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance priorities.
  • Develop and embed a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
  • Combine strategic regulatory planning with pragmatic operational management to support effective business delivery.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of maintaining compliance across a broad and complex range of requirements.
  • Automotive industry experience at both manufacturer and retail level.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional and cross-business working groups.
  • Thorough understanding of business management gained through extensive experience in a variety of automotive management positions.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to manage performance and deliver results through others.
  • Ability to combine strategic thinking with a pragmatic operational management approach.
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders ranging from Board level to individual team members.
