Director of Safeguarding

Bedford School is seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and exceptional safeguarding professional to join the School in the newly created role of Director of Safeguarding.

This is a significant leadership position within one of the country's leading independent day and boarding schools. The successful candidate will provide operational leadership of safeguarding and child protection across the Prep and Upper School and will act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), trained to the same standard as the Designated Safeguarding Lead in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026.

Working in tandem with the Deputy Head, Pastoral (Upper School) and Assistant Head, Pastoral (Prep School), the Director of Safeguarding will provide operational leadership of safeguarding across the Prep and Upper Schools. Together, they will lead the management of safeguarding concerns, referrals, casework and interventions, ensuring a consistent and effective approach across the School. In conjunction with the Deputy Head, Pastoral (Upper School) and Assistant Head, Pastoral (Prep School), the Director of Safeguarding will help ensure appropriate safeguarding leadership and decision-making is maintained at all times, including during term time, outside normal school hours and throughout school holiday periods, with clear arrangements for cover, continuity and oversight. In partnership with Housemasters and Housemistresses, boarding staff, the medical team, counsellors, governors and external agencies, the postholder will provide expert advice, oversee safeguarding systems and records, support vulnerable pupils and help ensure that safeguarding remains central to every aspect of school life.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
