We are currently seeking a Director of Sales to join our vibrant team. The role:
- Lead the hotel’s sales strategy, driving revenue growth across MICE, corporate, group, leisure and local account segments.
- Take a proactive lead on the MICE market, identifying and converting new conference, meetings, events and residential business.
- Develop strong relationships with event agencies, conference organisers, corporate bookers and key regional businesses.
- Proactively prospect for new business through appointments, networking, industry events, sales calls and familiarisation visits.
- Maximise opportunities within our meeting and event spaces for up to 250 guests, increasing both conversion and average event value.
- Build and manage a strong MICE and corporate sales pipeline, with clear targets for enquiries, conversion, revenue and future business.
- Work closely with Revenue, Reservations and Operations to optimise pricing, availability and total account value, including bedrooms, F&B and events.
- Identify opportunities to grow residential conferences and multi-day events, maximising bedroom displacement and total revenue.
- Represent the hotel across Durham and the wider North East business community, developing partnerships that generate measurable commercial opportunities.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends and account performance, using insight to continually strengthen our commercial strategy.
- Bring energy and creativity to showcasing the hotel, turning our riverside location, refurbished facilities and Durham destination into compelling reasons to book.
- Take ownership of key accounts from initial prospecting through to contracting, retention and account development.

Qualifications
- A proven track record in a similar role within a quality environment and to be able to demonstrate excellent standards and sales productivity.
- Commercially astute, multi-tasker who is motivated by challenge.
- Driven and ambitious to increase productivity and sales volume with appropriate techniques.
- Clear thinker with excellent communication abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Ability to enhance the hotel’s community image.
