Director of Health & Safety

Oxford | Hybrid (2–3 days across ODS Group locations)

Assured Safety Recruitment is proud to be partnering exclusively with ODS Group to appoint their new Director of Health & Safety.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join ODS Group, one of Oxfordshire's leading operational businesses, reporting directly to the Managing Director and becoming a key member of the senior leadership team. ODS Group delivers a diverse range of services including environmental services, highways, engineering, property and construction, grounds maintenance, waste and recycling, facilities management, fleet and commercial services. Health & Safety is already well established across the organisation, and this role offers the opportunity to build on those strong foundations while shaping the future direction of Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Quality and Wellbeing.

The Opportunity

As Director of Health & Safety, you will provide strategic leadership across the organisation, ensuring Health & Safety continues to support operational excellence, strong governance and sustainable business performance. Working closely with the Managing Director, Board and Executive Leadership Team, you will influence strategic decision-making, lead an established Health & Safety function and champion a culture of continual improvement across a complex, multi-disciplinary organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the organisation's long-term Health & Safety strategy.
  • Provide strategic advice, assurance and performance reporting to the Managing Director and Board.
  • Lead, develop and inspire the Health & Safety team, building capability and succession.
  • Drive continual improvement across Health & Safety, Environmental Management and Quality, maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Strengthen governance, contractor assurance and risk management across diverse operational services.
  • Represent ODS Group with regulators, clients and key external stakeholders.
  • Promote a collaborative culture where Health & Safety is embedded in operational and commercial decision-making.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety leader who can operate confidently at Executive and Board level while remaining visible, approachable and credible with operational teams. You will have:

  • Significant senior leadership experience within a complex, multi-site operational environment.
  • A proven track record of developing organisational Health & Safety strategy and influencing Executive teams and Boards.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing Health & Safety teams.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Expertise in contractor management, CDM, governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and pragmatic leadership style.

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) is essential.
  • Membership recognised professional Health & Safety body (CMIOSH).
  • Environmental Management qualification or experience supporting ISO 14001 is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.
