Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Campus and Community Engagement, the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Engagement (“Director”), will ensure that all Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) institutional partnerships align with the core missions of the office and the university, and will act as a central bridge-builder, fostering meaningful stakeholder engagement among faculty, students, staff, and alumni - and across the divides between them - to create a lasting culture of belonging.
The Director role will drive institutional excellence by partnering across the university to oversee faculty and staff hiring, data-driven engagement surveys, and the integration of workforce priorities into performance and leadership expectations. By designing collaborative learning experiences and providing strategic thought partnership, the position fosters a culture of recognition and professional growth while aligning departmental goals with broader organizational change.
The Director will also use data-driven insights and people-focused strategies to improve our operations and support for the University. By aligning this work with the University-wide goals, we can ensure our office creates meaningful, measurable changes for everyone in our community.
Major Responsibilities:
People Strategy & Workforce Engagement
- In partnership with units throughout the university, lead the oversight of faculty and staff hiring and engagement surveys.
Cross-Community Engagement
- Build strong working relationships with the Brown university community and work with administrators to share opportunities, align and organize information, and distill complex updates into clear, actionable community engagement initiatives.
Analytics & Data-Informed Decisions
- In partnership with the ODI leadership team, and other partners throughout the university, leverage the existing DIAP foundation with a focus on people, curriculum, and accountability to support leaders in using data as a tool for improvement, not just reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
