Director, Oil Research

LSEG is seeking an experienced and forward-looking leader to head its Oil Research capability. This is a high-impact role within Commodities Research, offering the opportunity to shape strategy, influence global thinking on oil markets, and lead an international team. Join our team!

As Research Director, you will combine deep market expertise with strong leadership and strategic execution to advance our oil research offering. You will champion an environment that values different perspectives and styles, supporting rigorous analysis and technical innovation, while building strong partnerships across the business and industry.

The role offers an opportunity to lead all aspects of research work to ensure our analysis remains relevant, actionable, and commercially impactful. This includes leading a distributed team, guiding supply and demand analysis, enhancing modelling capabilities, strengthening research workflows and operating models, and representing LSEG externally.

Skills and experience

  • Significant leadership experience in commodities research, with a track record of delivering results and leading teams
  • Deep understanding of oil markets, including fundamentals, S&D, pricing, flows, and the commercial drivers crafting demand for research
  • Proved ability to set strategy, prioritise roadmaps, and deliver outcomes in a volatile, cross-functional environment
  • Strong partnership skills, with experience working across Product, Sales, Technology, and Content functions to deliver business value
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the credibility to engage senior leaders and clients
  • Strong execution focus, with experience improving operating models, processes, and ways of working
  • Open and constructive approach, able to consider different viewpoints and adapt where appropriate

Key responsibilities

  • Lead LSEG’s Oil Research strategy, ensuring our analysis, data, and insight remain differentiated, relevant, and aligned to customer needs
  • Lead and develop a distributed team of research professionals, ensuring high standards of quality, accountability, and delivery
  • Guide the development of market views and research output across key oil market segments
  • Set priorities for research delivery and product development in partnership with Product and commercial teams
  • Strengthen modelling capabilities, data workflows, and research processes to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Represent LSEG externally through customer engagement, presentations, and industry events
  • Partner across Research, Product, Technology, Data, and Operations teams to deliver outcomes and remove barriers to execution
  • Build team capability through hiring, development, and succession planning
