Regulatory status
The role is subject to assessment by the relevant regulatory authority for fitness and propriety as a person responsible for the management of a regulated payments firm. Any change in the persons responsible for management is notifiable to the regulator.
Role Overview
The director will contribute to the strategic direction, regulatory standing and financial soundness with direct accountability to the Board and subject to regulatory fitness and propriety assessment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to executing the strategic plan, maintaining the company's risk appetite framework and reporting to the Board on performance and governance.
- Oversee financial performance, own funds adequacy, technology infrastructure, operational resilience and the New Product Approval Process.
- Ensure the company operates in full compliance with applicable regulatory rules, maintain a constructive regulator relationship, and keep the Board informed of material regulatory developments and compliance matters.
- Support accountability for customer outcomes, AML/CTF controls, financial sanctions screening, APP fraud reimbursement and outsourcing governance.
- Oversee the safeguarding framework, including reconciliation controls, credit institution oversight and readiness for incoming regulatory reform, and support ownership of the wind-down plan.
- Foster a strong governance and compliance culture, working closely with the Compliance & MLRO and ensuring control functions are independent and adequately resourced.
- Build a high-performance team with the skills and capacity to manage the company's affairs soundly as the business grows.

Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in financial services payments, electronic money, fintech or a related regulated environment including experience at senior management or board level including through a regulatory authorisation or change-in-management assessment.
- Good understanding of the regulatory frameworks including prudential requirements, own funds, safeguarding, regulatory reporting and the relevant regulatory authority's supervisory approach.
- Ability to operate effectively at Board level, engaging with regulators, presenting clearly and balancing commercial objectives with regulatory obligations.
- Sound knowledge of AML/CTF, financial sanctions, consumer protection, operational resilience and ICT risk governance as applied to regulated payment and e-money firms.
- Must satisfy fitness and propriety standards for a person responsible for the management of a regulated payments firm, covering competence, integrity and financial soundness.
- A degree, MBA or postgraduate qualification is advantageous; fluency in English is required.
