Director, Product Management

Are you ready to shape the future of data?

Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform.

In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can't keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster.

We started in Manchester and now we're global - with teams across the UK, US and India and fifteen years of data expertise behind us. We have raised over $300M from some of the worlds' best investors, including General Atlantic, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Battery Ventures.

We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We're here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we're looking for people who want to be part of it.

About the Role

As Director, Product Management, you'll own the strategy and execution for a core area of Matillion's product end to end. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll carry direct product ownership for a significant area while building and leading a team of Product Managers - roughly 40% of your time in direct product work, the rest on team leadership, stakeholder management and portfolio oversight, and that balance will shift over time.

Success in this role means category-level command of the data landscape, sharp product instincts, and the ability to raise the bar in others, not just in your own output.

You'll partner closely with Engineering and Design leadership to align on technical strategy, and with GTM, Customer Success and Marketing to keep the business ahead of what's shipping and turn what you learn into what you build next.

What you will be doing

  • Own a product area end to end: define the strategy for your area, translate company and product strategy into a multi-quarter roadmap, and make the prioritisation and resourcing trade-offs across multiple workstreams - with accountability for the commercial outcome of the whole portfolio.
  • Stay hands-on: retain direct ownership of a specific product area - write specs, run discovery, and make product calls yourself, not just through your team.
  • Set and enforce the quality bar: define what “good” looks like for the product area, review your team's product decisions and outputs, and hold the line with senior stakeholders when a capability isn't ready to ship - even when it's commercially uncomfortable.
  • Understand the market and the users: maintain a view of user needs across data engineering, analytics and platform personas, and own the competitive and market view of the data and AI ecosystem.
  • Build and lead the team: hire, coach and manage the performance of a team of Product Managers, run the team's operating rhythm, and set the standard for AI-enabled ways of working across the group.
  • Drive cross-functional and executive alignment: partner with Engineering and Design leadership on technical strategy and delivery capacity, keep GTM, Customer Success and Marketing ahead of what's shipping, and present roadmap and trade-offs to stakeholders, leadership and customers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we are looking for

  • Typically 10+ years in product management, including 3+ years managing Product Managers directly.
  • A track record of shipping and scaling B2B products end to end, with demonstrable commercial impact.
  • People leadership experience: you've hired, coached and managed the performance of Product Managers directly.
  • Real, hands-on exposure to the data ecosystem - enough to make credible technical trade-off calls.
  • A systems thinker operating at scale, balancing craft, speed and commercial impact across multiple workstreams at once.
  • Deep data literacy, and the ability to hold your team accountable to evidence-based decision-making.
  • A demonstrable track record of using AI tools to accelerate product work, and the ability to model, teach and hold your team to that same standard.
  • Excellent communication, including credibility in front of executive leadership and senior customers.
  • Comfortable holding a line under commercial pressure - on product quality and on team standards - and operating at both strategic and hands-on altitude in the same week.
