Director

Residential Property

Waterfront (Brierley Hill) | Full Time | Permanent

We’re looking for an accomplished Residential Property Solicitor to join Talbots Law as a Director, taking on a senior and influential role within our Private Residential Property Department.

This is an opportunity to lead and contribute to the continued growth of an award-winning Residential Property team, recently named Conveyancing Law Firm of the Year – Midlands & Wales at the National Conveyancing Awards.

You’ll work closely with the senior leadership of the department, combining your legal expertise with effective people leadership and commercial thinking. You’ll help us develop our teams, strengthen relationships with our established network of referrers and identify new opportunities for sustainable growth.

A key part of the role will be looking beyond the day-to-day delivery of legal work. We want someone who can build meaningful relationships with estate agents, introducers, developers and other strategic partners. Someone who understands their needs and can confidently promote our services and turn those relationships into long-term opportunities for Talbots.

As one of the region’s largest independent law firms, Talbots offers the client base, infrastructure and cross-referral opportunities to grow an established practice. You’ll have genuine influence over strategy, people and future growth and share directly in the success you help create.

What does the job involve?

As a Director within our Private Residential Property Department, you’ll have a broad remit spanning leadership, technical excellence, commercial growth and relationship management.

Your role will include:

  • Providing visible leadership, mentoring and support to Solicitors, Conveyancers, Paralegals and support colleagues, helping to create a high-performing and collaborative environment.
  • Working closely with senior leadership to contribute to the strategic direction, performance and continued growth of the department.
  • Building and strengthening relationships with estate agents, brokers, developers, introducers and other professional partners understanding their requirements and identifying opportunities for Talbots to support them.
  • Developing existing referrer relationships while identifying and establishing new sources of high-quality, sustainable work.
  • Using your knowledge of the residential property market to identify commercial opportunities and areas for future growth.
  • Acting as a senior technical point of contact, providing guidance and support on complex, unusual or higher-risk residential property matters.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

While you’ll remain close to the legal work and may retain an appropriate portfolio of matters, this role is about much more than managing your own caseload. Your impact will be measured through the people you lead, the relationships you develop and the contribution you make to the wider success and growth of the department.

What do you need?

We’re looking for an established Residential Property Solicitor with the experience, commercial awareness and leadership qualities to make an impact at Director level.

You’ll need:

  • Significant experience as a qualified Solicitor specialising in Residential Property with demonstrable technical knowledge across a broad range of residential property transactions, with the confidence to support colleagues on more complex matters.
  • Experience of managing, supervising or leading legal professionals and a genuine interest in developing others.
  • A track record of building and maintaining successful professional relationships with referrers and introducers of work.
  • Strong business development skills and the confidence to build relationships with estate agents, brokers, developers and other commercial partners.
  • The ability to promote our services credibly and identify opportunities to develop new and existing relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of what drives a successful and profitable Residential Property practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the presence and credibility to engage with colleagues, clients, referrers and senior external stakeholders.
  • The ambition to make a broader contribution to the continued growth and development of Talbots and our Private Residential Property Department.
