Job Description – Civil & Commercial Dispute Resolution Paralegal
Position: Paralegal
Department: Civil & Commercial Dispute Resolution
Location: Cotswolds offices (office-based with some flexibility)
Reporting to: Head of Dispute Resolution

We are looking for a Paralegal to help expand our Civil and Commercial Dispute Resolution team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who is looking to develop their practical experience in litigation within the supportive and engaging environment of a successful and established regional law firm.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced solicitors on a varied caseload of civil and commercial disputes, gaining hands-on experience across the full life cycle of contentious matters.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and capable paralegal to join a respected Dispute Resolution team within a long-established Cotswold practice and to assist with a wide variety of contentious matters. The role will offer the successful candidate a structured opportunity to develop practical litigation skills under appropriate supervision.
The role will include the following responsibilities:
- Assisting solicitors acting for individuals, owner-managed businesses and companies in a wide variety of civil and commercial disputes.
- Liaising with clients as required, and providing the highest level of client care while maintaining strong client relationships.
- Liaising with opposing parties, solicitors, barristers, experts, and courts as required.
- Drafting correspondence, instructions, chronologies, schedules and other legal documents.
- Reviewing, organising and analysing evidence.
- Supporting solicitors with pre-action correspondence, negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Assisting with the preparation of pleadings, witness statements, court directions and applications.
- Monitoring procedural deadlines.
- Assisting with costs budgeting and time recording.
- Assisting with disclosure and document management.
- Preparing bundles and documentation for hearings.
- Preparing matters for hearings, trials and other procedural stages.
- Attending hearings and conferences where appropriate.
- Reviewing and analysing documentary evidence.
- Conducting legal research.
- Conducting litigation in the County Court and other appropriate courts and tribunals.
- Maintaining accurate case file records.
- Working in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and applicable professional and regulatory requirements.
- Assisting with billing, time recording and general file administration.

Key skills and qualifications
- Educated to degree level, ideally with a law degree or equivalent legal qualification.
- Previous experience in a civil / commercial litigation environment, although applications from talented candidates seeking their first litigation role will be considered.
- Highly organised and able to work accurately under pressure
- Good organisation and time-management skills to balance competing priorities with strict deadlines.
- Analytical, methodical and strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable reviewing substantial quantities of documents and identifying relevant issues.
- Professional and personable approach, with strong communication skills.
- Interested in understanding the practical objectives and needs of clients.
- Able to work independently while also contributing positively to a small team.
- Proactive, reliable and willing to take responsibility for their work.
- Commercially aware and committed to providing excellent client service.
- A genuine enthusiasm for developing a career in civil and commercial litigation.
