Job Description:

The Distillates Commercial Analyst plays a critical role within BP’s Trading & Shipping (T&S) organization, supporting our mission to transform and connect the global energy market. Sitting directly on the trading bench, you will work closely with RPTE traders to ensure accurate, timely exposure reporting, high‑quality deal capture, and strong commercial insight that supports value creation across the portfolio.

This role requires precision, curiosity, and the ability to understand complex trading structures. You will collaborate with traders, commercial teams across London, Chicago, Houston, and Singapore, as well as internal support functions and external counterparties. The position reports to either the Commodity Commercial Manager or Commercial Advisor, depending on the commodity line.

Key Accountabilities

In this role, we support the bench by ensuring the book is accurate, timely, and aligned with trading activity. This includes managing daily exposure, maintaining pricing and valuations, capturing deals correctly, and working closely with traders so positions and strategies are reflected properly throughout the day. We also assist with commercial development by analysing grade values, pricing benchmarks, and supporting the lifecycle of deals as they progress operationally.

Primary responsibilities

  • Managing daily exposure for all trading books, including morning position updates, reconciliations, intraday moves, and end‑of‑day position explanations
  • Conducting timely and accurate deal entry and responding to support‑function queries
  • Managing daily and forward pricing, refreshing curves, and publishing daily prices
  • Post‑deal management including FX hedges, futures expiry, EFPs, and trigger‑price processes
  • Managing pricing options, evaluating structure options, executing rolls, and nominating pricing to third parties
  • Ensuring lifecycle valuation accuracy across operational amendments, blending/regrades, exposure‑modelled deals, and dummy deals
  • Supporting daily P&L accuracy and T0 valuation validation
  • Supporting on‑bench business development and origination, including grade value analysis, pricing benchmarks, and complexity assessments
  • Developing capability to manage daily third‑party relationships with smaller producers

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
