An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Distribution Manager to join a fast-growing food business at a pivotal stage of its development.

This is a genuine greenfield role, offering the chance to design, implement and lead the distribution operation from scratch. Working closely with the leadership team, you will establish the processes, partnerships and performance measures needed to create a scalable, customer-focused distribution network. With a strong emphasis on transport and third-party logistics management, you'll be responsible for ensuring products are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively and on time across a growing customer base.

The Role

As Distribution Manager, you'll take ownership of all outbound logistics activities, managing relationships with external transport providers and building a best-in-class distribution operation capable of supporting ambitious growth plans. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing the company's distribution and transport strategy.
  • Selecting, managing and developing relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) and transport partners.
  • Driving service excellence through carrier performance management and KPI reporting.
  • Negotiating transport contracts and identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Managing transport capacity planning to support seasonal peaks and business growth.
  • Establishing distribution processes, controls and operating procedures from the ground up.
  • Monitoring OTIF performance, customer service metrics and transport costs.
  • Working collaboratively with Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Service and Commercial teams to align distribution plans with customer demand.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant food industry, transport and health & safety regulations.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives to optimise transport performance and customer experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
