Job Description: Distribution Trainer & Site H&S Lead - Hemsworth
Salary
£45k - £50k plus £1,500 attendance bonus
Hours
45 hours per week
Working Pattern
Any 5 days from 7 – flexible hours discussed at interview
Brakes is looking for an experienced and engaging Distribution Trainer & Site H&S Lead to join our team at Hemsworth.
This is a varied and influential role within the Transport department, combining responsibility for driver training and development with a key role in leading and driving the site's Health & Safety agenda alongside the senior leadership team.
You will work with colleagues across the depot and our Regional H&S Business Partner to develop our people, maintain high standards of compliance, and help create a positive and proactive safety culture.
What you'll be doing
Distribution Training
- Deliver classroom induction training and on-road driver assessments in line with Brakes standards.
- Coach and support new drivers throughout their probation period.
- Complete probation reviews and deliver morning briefs when legislation, policies, or procedures change.
- Ensure refresher training is completed before expiry dates and maintain accurate training records and training matrices.
- Deliver Manual Handling training and complete behavioral monitoring and driver assessments where required.
- Identify training needs and work with operational leaders to support continuous improvement.
Site H&S Lead
- Lead and drive the site's Health & Safety agenda alongside the senior leadership team.
- Support H&S improvement plans, audits, and reviews through Origami.
- Assist with accident and incident investigations and ensure actions are followed through.
- Identify risks and support managers in implementing effective controls.
- Work closely with the Regional H&S Business Partner to maintain and improve H&S standards.
- Promote a strong, proactive safety culture across the depot.

About you
We're looking for a confident, engaging people person who can build relationships, influence colleagues at all levels, and isn't afraid to challenge when standards aren't where they need to be.
You'll be organized, accurate, and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy operational environment. You'll have a passion for developing people and improving Health & Safety standards.
You'll need:
- HGV Class 2 licence.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Driver CPC.
- RoSPA qualification.
- AET Level 3.
- IOSH qualification.
- NEBOSH qualification or currently working towards NEBOSH.
Your hours will be predominantly days, but flexibility is required to support training across all shifts, including nights when necessary.
