Role Overview
The Highway Network Department, within the Communities Directorate, is seeking a Coal Tip Engineer to oversee the development of Coal Tip Asset Management Plans and play a guiding and pivotal role in maintaining the Council's Coal Tip legacy. The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of the Authority's role and responsibilities in relation to The Disused Mine and Quarry Tips (Wales) Act 2025 within the Bridgend County Borough.
You will be part of a newly created team within the Authority for a 3-year fixed term, to oversee Coal Tip Maintenance throughout the County Borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review maintenance plans for Bridgend County Borough Council's Disused Mines and Quarry Tip land holdings
- Review and assess, and where required provide advice, on maintenance plans for Disused Mine and Quarry Tips held by private landowners within the Boundaries of Bridgend County Borough Council
- Preparing, collating, and reporting of the Disused Mine and Quarry Tips maintenance inspections undertaken by BCBC staff and others
- Identify and prepare schedules of works for coal tip maintenance schemes and monitor and report on their progress to senior management teams
- Provide cost estimates for works to Disused Mine and Quarry Tips, to create funding bids to Welsh Government or internally to secure funding for remedial works
- Attend meetings and represent Bridgend County Borough Council at national level to provide a local authority response to the maintenance of Disused Mine and Quarry Tips
- Manage and control BCBC land assets, including Disused Mine and Quarry Tips, assigned to Highways Network Management Team

Requirements
- Experience or knowledge in undertaking the specific duties identified in this pack

- A valid driving licence is requirement for this post
- The council's Hybrid Working Policy applies to this post. This provides a framework for establishing how you will undertake working hours between your home and the office
- A Health Surveillance assessment through our Occupational Health Service is a requirement for this post
- Emergency Response is a requirement of this post
