Description
Strategic Leadership and Processing Growth
- Translate the COO’s enterprise Operations strategy into an integrated national Processing strategy, multi-year roadmap and prioritised execution portfolio.
- Design and continuously evolve the future-state Processing operating model, including decision rights, service architecture, capacity, footprint, technology, workforce and governance in collaboration with cross-functional leadership.
- Advise the COO and Stratco, on Processing trends, strategic trade-offs, emerging risks, investment priorities and opportunities affecting SBV’s broader cash ecosystem.
- Maintain a strategic view of national and international cash-processing developments and convert relevant insights into actionable operating-model decisions.
- Ensure the Processing portfolio contributes demonstrably to SBV’s growth, diversification, operational resilience and enterprise-value objectives.
- Lead strategic business cases for investment in automation, processing technology, and infrastructure improvements.
- Position Processing as a strategic enabler of SBV's Utility and Cash Ecosystem strategy.
- Foster collaboration across departments aligning and enhancing Processing plans with Logistics, Commercial, Technology, Finance, Risk, Security and HR best practice.
National Processing Performance and Service Integrity
- Optimize profitability of the Processing division, driving strategic synergies across the Operations division to enhance efficiency and financial performance.
- Develop medium- and long-term capacity plans to support forecasted increases in processing volumes.
- Foster a culture of strategic thinking by driving the adoption of business acumen within the Processing Management team ensuring data-driven decision-making and financial discipline.
- Define and manage Processing Product / service offering standards, product evolution and functional roadmap.
- Oversee Processing analytics/research, business case development, business requirements development, product development, software delivery lifecycle, and vendor management.
- Responsible for program management and overseeing all aspects of project delivery within the Processing channel.
- Be a key contributor and supporter of SBV’s Operational strategic initiatives including Cost efficiencies, Continuous improvement and Optimization.
- Share Best Practices to institutionalize knowledge of the Processing channel and leverage learnings across SBV and industry.
- Direct all activities to obtain and improve service quality bench marking and NPS across all Processing Solutions / products measured against industry standards for best practice identification.
- Build SBV’s understanding of the Processing competitive landscape in a multi-channel environment.
- Hold end-to-end accountability for the performance of SBV’s national Processing network against approved service, quality, productivity, safety, control and customer standards.
- Establish a nationally consistent Processing performance and standards-management system with clear standards, leading indicators, thresholds and intervention protocols.
- Govern Processing capacity, throughput, turnaround times, accuracy, balancing, customer crediting dependencies, service availability and exception resolution.
- Identify systemic underperformance and direct sustainable corrective action across sites and regions.
- Ensure national Processing delivery supports the integrity and continuity of the broader Operations value chain.
- Provide the COO (and Stratco where applicable) with an integrated view of Processing performance, constraints, root causes, recovery actions and forward-looking exposure enabled by decision intelligence data.
Customer, Commercial and Ecosystem Contribution and Stakeholder Management
- Own Processing’s contribution to the end-to-end customer proposition and ensure that Processing performance supports contractual, service and commercial commitments.
- Partner with Commercial, Technology and Operations leaders to shape viable Processing solutions, service standards and customer-value propositions that position SBV as the preferred Processing Partner.
- Own and maintain high-level stakeholder relationships, ensuring effective engagement, execution, and opportunity identification across but not limited to customers, unions, regulatory bodies and internal departments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive synergies and operational improvements.
- Strengthen relationships with vendor to meet SBV’s cost, design and client experience requirements.
- Lead the development and entrenchment of the Processing customer value propositions, positioning SBV as the partner of choice through innovation and service differentiation.
- Lead activities to deliver best-in-class client experience within the Processing network in terms of innovation, functionality, technology, look and feel to ensure that SBV stays abreast or ideally ahead of its competition.
- Work closely with applicable stakeholders to drive and leverage of technology to create the visualization of vale add data from a single source of truth.
- Lead resolution of material Processing-related customer issues and ensure systemic causes are addressed.
- Provide Processing expertise to strategic customer, industry and regulatory engagements led or sponsored by the COO.
- Maintain fit-for-purpose operational relationships with relevant customers, vendors and partners within approved relationship mandates.
- Translate stakeholder feedback, NPS results and operational intelligence into measurable service improvements.
- Support the COO’s industry leadership by supplying credible Processing insights, evidence and implementation perspectives.
- Nurture a positive the labour climate by successfully building and maintain relationships within the Union Leadership structures, shop steward structures, informal influencers and bargaining Councils.

Operational Risk, Control, Resilience and Assurance
- Act as the accountable Lead for Processing operational risk, control effectiveness, loss prevention, regulatory compliance and resilience.
- Maintain strict adherence to industry regulations, including banking security requirements, and health and safety laws, while proactively monitoring regulatory changes that may impact operations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive business continuity plans, strengthening operational resilience against threats such as security breaches, infrastructure failures and extreme weather events,
- Drive risk management and compliance with all necessary rules & regulations that govern cash processing.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with cash processing operations, implementing robust security protocols and contingency measures to safeguard assets, employees, and customers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance cash processing protection measures, leveraging advanced technology, intelligence gathering, and operational best practices to prevent security breaches and financial losses.
- Regularly review and audit cash processing operations to assess risk exposure, track compliance levels, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Establish and ensure Processing BCM, disaster-recovery and crisis-response arrangements are tested, current and aligned with enterprise resilience requirements.
- Drive timely root-cause analysis and sustainable remediation of material incidents, control failures, audit findings and repeat exceptions.
- Institute SBV Processing Channel Governance, ensuring the minimum standards and SOP’s for the below are in place and reviewed accordingly:

- Subscribe and align to SBV Services' ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards, ensuring the department’s processes and quality management system is at all times in compliance with the standard.
- Support SBVs ESG journey, reporting on and managing the ESG requirements to ensure a positive reflection and outcome.
- Escalate material exposures promptly, with clear options, consequences and recommended decisions.
Financial Stewardship and Value Realization
- Own the Processing portfolio’s financial performance within the mandate and parameters approved by the COO and Group Financial Director.
- Translate financial objectives into measurable cost-to-serve, labour-productivity, asset-utilisation, margin, waste-reduction and efficiency targets.
- Develop multi-year Processing forecasts covering volumes, capacity, workforce, operating expenditure, capital expenditure and technology requirements.
- Lead Processing investment business cases and provide evidence-based recommendations on automation, infrastructure, footprint and capability investments.
- Ensure approved investments have accountable benefits owners, baselines, milestones and post-implementation value-realisation reviews.
- Identify and execute structural cost opportunities without compromising safety, service reliability, regulatory compliance or operational resilience.
- Provide transparent early warning to the COO on material budget, productivity, margin and investment risks.
- Monitor budget adherence across the Processing P&L statements, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing financial performance benchmarks to enhance operational efficiencies.
- Conduct a critical review of any financial impact analysis regarding any proposed Processing solutions or operational amendments.

Processing Leadership, Workforce Productivity and Succession
- Build a nationally aligned Processing leadership system with clear mandates, decision rights, performance standards and consequence management.
- Ensure the Processing organisational structure, workforce model, spans of control and capability requirements support the future-state operating model.
- Own strategic workforce planning for Processing, covering capacity, shifts, critical skills, automation impacts, productivity and future capability.
- Build succession depth for critical Processing leadership and technical roles.
- Strengthen leadership accountability for safety, controls, customer outcomes, productivity, employee dignity and execution.
- Partner with HR to implement targeted leadership, technical and scalable-learning pathways.
- Sustain constructive labour relations and proactively manage workforce risks affecting Processing continuity.
- Champion SBV’s Dignity First ethos, inclusive leadership and a performance-led culture across the Processing portfolio.
- Leading the focus on talent to instill value creation for high value contributors, advocating and validating the talent bench strength within Processing.
- Govern the adherence to legislative requirements, company policies and procedures in respect of employment Health and safety practices within the processing environment.
- In relation to continuous improvement partner with Learning & Development to enliven a skills-based approach for amplifying future-fit employees.
- Drive the department’s values while inspiring confidence and generating excitement, enthusiasm and commitment towards the mission.
Transformation Delivery, Integration And Benefits Governance
- Sponsor and govern the Processing transformation portfolio, ensuring direct alignment with the COO’s strategic priorities.
- Convert strategy into clearly sequenced programmes with accountable owners, milestones, dependencies, resources, risks and quantified benefits.
- Integrate Processing change with the wider Operations value chain to prevent silo optimisation and unintended downstream consequences.
- Establish disciplined programme governance, including stage gates, value tracking, operational-readiness assessments and post-implementation reviews.
- Resolve cross-functional constraints and escalate enterprise-level trade-offs requiring COO intervention.
- Ensure transformation outcomes are adopted, embedded and sustained through leadership accountability, operating disciplines and performance measures.
- Provide the COO with a consolidated view of delivery confidence, dependencies, risks, decisions and benefits realisation.
- Own the Processing digital, automation and data roadmap in alignment with the COO’s and Chief of Technology’s future-state agenda.
