Divisional Medical Director (Psychiatry)

As Divisional Medical Director, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the quality, safety and future direction of care across a diverse portfolio of services.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you'll be one of Elysium's most senior medical leaders, providing strategic, professional and clinical leadership across the division. As the senior medical voice, you'll influence organisational strategy, shape future models of care and drive the highest standards of clinical excellence, governance and patient safety.
This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished medical leader to influence clinical strategy, service quality, workforce development and organisational performance across a complex and diverse healthcare portfolio. You'll work in partnership with operational, nursing and multidisciplinary leaders to drive innovation, improve outcomes and support the continued development of high-quality services that change lives.
Alongside your contribution to strategic decision-making, you'll lead and develop a highly engaged and future-focused medical workforce. Through workforce planning, talent development and succession management, you'll create the conditions for doctors to thrive, grow and deliver exceptional care.
We're looking for a credible and influential senior clinician with experience operating at executive or near-executive level. You'll bring a track record of leading complex healthcare services, improving quality and performance, delivering transformation and building high-performing multidisciplinary teams. Most importantly, you'll share our commitment to delivering great healthcare and helping service users on their recovery journey achieve their fullest potential.
What You’ll Lead
Executive, Strategic and Clinical Leadership
- Provide visible and influential medical leadership across the division, shaping strategy, advising senior leaders and ensuring clinical excellence remains at the heart of decision-making.
- You'll champion innovative models of care, drive strategic priorities and influence the future direction of services.
Quality, Safety and Clinical Governance
- Lead a culture of quality, safety and continuous improvement across the division.
- You'll provide oversight of clinical governance, regulatory compliance and patient safety, ensuring services consistently deliver outstanding standards of care and achieve positive outcomes for service users.
Medical Workforce and Professional Leadership
- Lead the development of a high-performing, engaged and future-focused medical workforce.
- You'll drive workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and professional development, while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration and leadership.

Operational Performance and Resource Management

- Shape the future of services through innovation, transformation and service redesign.
- You'll ensure clinical evidence, emerging best practice and national priorities are translated into meaningful improvements that enhance quality, experience and outcomes.
Research, Education and External Partnerships
- Promote innovation, education and continuous learning across the division.
- You'll build strong partnerships with healthcare, academic and professional organisations, represent Elysium externally and help advance clinical practice and leadership development.
About You
You'll be an accomplished and influential medical leader with the credibility, experience and strategic vision to shape healthcare at scale. You'll combine strong clinical leadership with the ability to drive transformation, develop high-performing teams and deliver exceptional outcomes for service users.
Essential
- Qualified medical doctor (MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent) with full GMC registration and a licence to practise.
- MRCPsych (or equivalent postgraduate qualification) and Specialist Registration, ideally in Psychiatry.
- Senior clinical leadership credentials, with a proven track record of overseeing complex healthcare services and multidisciplinary teams at executive or near-executive level.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement and healthcare regulation.
- Successfully shaping and delivering clinical strategy, service improvement and organisational transformation.
- Expertise in workforce planning, recruitment, retention and developing medical talent.
- Outstanding communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
- Strong commercial and operational acumen, including oversight of resources and budgets.
- A strategic, collaborative and values-led approach, underpinned by a commitment to delivering outstanding care and outcomes for service users.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management, Leadership or a related discipline.
- A track record of delivering large-scale transformation, innovation or service redesign initiatives.
- Coaching, mentoring, talent development or reflective practice expertise.
- Involvement in research, education, academic collaboration or advancing clinical excellence.

Other Requirements
- This role requires flexibility to work across multiple locations and attend meetings as needed, including occasional commitments outside normal working hours, with regular travel between sites and, where applicable, a valid UK driving licence.

Where you will be working
This role is remote, but includes frequent travel to North or South sites dependant on role applied for.
