Divisional Operations Director

Ambit is seeking an exceptional Divisional Operations Director to provide strategic leadership across our operations function and play a key role in the continued growth and success of our business.

Reporting directly to the Executive Leadership Team, this is a pivotal role responsible for driving operational performance, improving efficiency, leading high-performing teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of our business objectives. You will combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership, building strong relationships across the organisation while ensuring operational excellence is embedded throughout the division.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially minded operational leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a proven track record of leading large-scale operations, driving transformation, and delivering measurable business results.

The Role

As Divisional Operations Director, you will have overall responsibility for the operational performance of the division, ensuring the effective delivery of services, projects, and business initiatives. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to develop and implement operational strategies that support growth, enhance client satisfaction, improve profitability, and create a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deliver divisional operational strategies aligned to Ambit's business objectives.
  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives that drive growth, efficiency, and performance.
  • Support business planning, forecasting, and long-term organisational development.
  • Contribute to the overall leadership and direction of the business as a member of the senior management team.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee day-to-day divisional operations, ensuring high levels of performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.
  • Drive operational improvements, process optimisation, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure resources are effectively allocated to maximise delivery and efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and governance frameworks across the division.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Take ownership of divisional budgets, forecasting, and financial performance.
  • Drive profitability and operational efficiency through effective resource and cost management.
  • Monitor performance against financial targets and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Support business development activities and strategic client engagement.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a diverse team of operational leaders and managers.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop future leaders within the business.
  • Champion employee engagement, wellbeing, and professional development.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a key escalation point for operational challenges and strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure exceptional service delivery and client satisfaction across all areas of responsibility.
  • Represent Ambit professionally at senior-level meetings and industry events.

About You

You are a strategic and commercially focused operational leader with strong business acumen and a passion for delivering results through people.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant senior leadership experience within an Operations Director, Divisional Director, Regional Director, or similar executive role.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale operational teams and functions.
  • Strong commercial and financial management experience, including budget ownership and P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrable success delivering operational improvements and organisational change initiatives.
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and people development skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and client relationship-building capabilities.
  • Experience establishing and monitoring operational performance frameworks and KPIs.
  • Outstanding communication, influencing, and decision-making abilities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree-level education in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification.
  • Chartered status or professional membership relevant to the industry.
  • Experience leading growth, transformation, or scaling initiatives.
