About The Role
We are looking for a commercially focused DLO Commercial Manager to support the growth, performance and development of our Direct Labour Organisation. This is a key role at the centre of repairs, finance, operational delivery and business planning, helping Housing Solutions make informed, evidence-based decisions about the future expansion of in-house services.
- You will develop and monitor the DLO trading model, working closely with Finance and operational colleagues to ensure clear, accurate reporting on costs, income, productivity, performance and value for money.
- You will also lead the preparation of robust business cases for service growth, comparing in-house and external delivery models and identifying risks, opportunities and investment requirements.
- The role will involve developing productivity and utilisation analysis, creating insight reports and dashboards, supporting data quality improvements, and helping operational leaders translate performance information into practical service improvements.
- You will work across teams including Repairs, Finance, Data Insight, Digital, Compliance, Strategic Asset Management and senior leaders to ensure the DLO has the commercial insight needed to deliver effective, efficient and resident-focused services.
About You
- You will have a strong commercial, financial analysis or quantity surveying background, ideally gained within housing, construction, infrastructure, repairs, maintenance or a similar service delivery environment.
- You will be confident building financial models, developing business cases and translating complex data into clear, practical insight that supports decision-making.
- We are looking for someone who is analytical, curious and delivery-focused, with the ability to challenge assumptions constructively and work collaboratively across a range of teams and stakeholders.
- You will be comfortable operating in a developing area of the business, shaping new ways of working and helping to improve systems, processes and reporting.
- You will bring a commercial mindset, a strong focus on value for money and the confidence to influence colleagues at different levels. Experience of repairs, maintenance, asset management, data analysis, process improvement or AI-driven reporting tools would be an advantage.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
