Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution

At Balfour Beatty Power T&D, we're delivering some of the UK's most critical energy infrastructure projects. We are looking for an organised and proactive Document Controller to join our team based at Norwich Main Substation and play a key role in managing project information, digital collaboration, and document governance across major power projects.

As a Document Controller, you will be responsible for establishing governance and assuring the flow of data and information between Balfour Beatty, our clients, designers, and subcontractors. You will manage the Common Data Environment (CDE) for one or multiple projects, ensuring that project information is accurate, compliant, and readily available across platforms including BIM 360 Docs, SharePoint, and client EDMS systems.

Working closely with project teams and the Digital Engineering function, you will champion collaboration, information exchange, and digital best practice throughout the project lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

  • Work to the Project Information Plan and Asset Information Plan set out at project start up (IM will be identified at this stage)
  • Assist with the set-up of projects in BIM 360 NextGen (folders, users rights, workflows)
  • Assist the Information Manager with the roll out of BIM 360 to newly identified projects and complete support training and visits
  • Assist the Document Control manager with implementation and ongoing use of BIM360 on the project(s)
  • Assist Project Team Members in assembling information for Project Outputs and reporting
  • Enable reliable information exchange through a common data environment
  • Enable integration and co-ordination of information within the Information Model
  • Assure delivery of information exchanges
  • Accept/reject information exchanges within the common data environment - ensure compliance with agreed processes and procedures. Validate compliance with information requirements and advise on non-compliance.
  • Liaise with and co-operate with Project Team Members and the Employer in support of a collaborative working culture.
  • Working to promote envisioning, influencing, aligning followers to BIM 360 NextGen Strategic vision, and ensuring execution BIM 360 NextGen project goals
  • Printing construction drawings for issue to site where required
  • Manage an Operational Master Document Register, ensuring information is up to date as an action occurs
  • Maintain and execute on workflow processes for all documents requiring deliverable status

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential

  • Background and understanding of a variety of engineering projects and processes.
  • Understands and has experience working with Document Control/Management
  • Demonstrable stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationships skills.

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

  • Experience using BIM 360 Docs
  • Experience and understanding of site based Operational business processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of Engineering applications and their associated data structures
  • An awareness of the Utilities / Power / Construction industry.
  • A working knowledge of an Engineering Drawing Office, Design Office and document control processes
  • A working knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) tools, processes and practices
  • Awareness and knowledge of BS1192 / ISO19650
  • Ability to work as part of a project team as well as a wider Document Control team, looking for opportunities to improve procedures across the UK through thoughtful and actionable suggestions
