Domain Expert Role Overview
Location: UK-based, hybrid working (with regular travel to client sites, Methods offices, and events) Salary: £80,000–£120,000 base salary, plus performance bonus
As a Domain Expert for Data & AI Strategy in our Data & AI Consulting Practice, you’ll empower clients to leverage data, analytics, and AI for:
- Improving business outcomes
- Enhancing public services
- Boosting operational performance
- Boosting regulatory confidence
- Strengthening organisational capability
You’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, drive high-impact consulting engagements, support business development, shape repeatable Methods solutions, and foster a strong internal domain community.

In this role, you’ll be the thought leader and subject-matter authority in Data & AI Strategy, shaping propositions, guiding client delivery, and cements Methods’ market position.
This role focuses on helping clients realise measurable business, operational, service, and customer/citizen value through data and AI.

This position is best suited for a senior consultant experienced in complex, regulated environments—such as:
- Public sector (e.g. government, health, defence, justice)

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Data & AI strategy engagements for public sector and regulated-industry clients
- Facilitate senior stakeholder workshops (executives, boards, Chief Digital Officers, CIOs, CTOs, transformation directors, service owners)
- Assess organisational maturity across data, AI, analytics, governance, technology, operating models, people, process, adoption, and value realisation
- Identify, assess, and prioritise Data & AI use cases for:
- Operational efficiency
- Service improvement
- Decision support
- Automation
- Fraud/error reduction
- Workforce productivity
- Customer/citizen experience
- Develop business cases, investment narratives, benefits maps, KPIs, OKRs, and transformation roadmaps
- Advise on technology strategies, including:
- Build/buy/partner considerations
- Platform direction & interoperability
- Supplier risk & lock-in
- Scalability & AI readiness
- Ensure clients avoid fragmented pilots by defining realistic paths from experimentation to scaled delivery
- Shape discovery, PoC (proof-of-concept), alpha, and transformation programme approaches
- Support sales and bidding with tailored Data & AI strategies, proposal content, and client growth ideas
- Mentor consultants in strategic advisory skills, structured problem-solving, executive communication, and benefits-led consulting
Essential Experience
- 8+ years in Data & AI strategy, digital transformation, business consulting, technology advisory, or large-scale transformation
- Measurable impact evidence from previous programmes or projects
- Experience as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders in:
- Consulting
- Public sector
- Regulated industries or complex organisations
- Proficiency in developing data/AI strategies, transformation roadmaps, and business cases
- Deep understanding of Data & AI capabilities, including:
- Analytics & AI/ML
- Generative AI (GenAI)
- Data platforms
- Data governance & architecture
- Adoption considerations
- Ability to prioritise use cases based on:
- Value potential
- Feasibility
- Risk management
- Organisational readiness
- Strategic alignment
- Hands-on experience in partnering with sales, account, or bid teams to develop client offers
- Track record of community-building, knowledge-sharing, or capability development
- Experience in highly regulated environments, with focus on:
- Governance
- Security, compliance
- Operational risk
- Auditability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, distinguishing unclear ambiguity with:
- Clear options

- Financial services, insurance, telecoms, or other highly regulated sectors.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with:
- HM Treasury Green Book
- Better Business Cases frameworks
- MSP & Agile delivery (e.g., SAFe, TOGAF)
- Expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Azure/AWS/Google Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Copilot, or enterprise data platforms
- Background in building or scaling new consulting propositions
- Experience in multi-supplier client-side advisory or delivery assurance roles
- Contribution to thought leadership, conferences, and executive briefings
Security Clearance Requirement
This role requires (or willingness to obtain):
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with evidence submitted via Gov.UK’s portal.
