Location & Compensation
- Location: UK-based, hybrid working
- Travel: Regular travel to client sites, Methods offices, and community events
- Salary: £80,000–£120,000 base salary, plus bonus
Role Overview: Domain Expert – Data Governance, Stewardship & Information Management
Role Summary
The Data Governance, Stewardship & Information Management Specialist helps clients build trusted data foundations for analytics, AI, reporting, interoperability, decision-making, and regulatory confidence.
You’ll work with large, complex organisations to:
- Make data usable, governed, secure, discoverable, high-quality, and accountable.
- Support sectors with fragmented data across legacy systems, suppliers, silos, or regulated environments.
- Bring expertise in data governance, master data management, quality, ownership, metadata, information governance, DLP, and AI-readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Client Delivery & Advisory
- Lead engagements for public-sector and regulated-industry clients in data governance, stewardship, and information management.
- Define enterprise, programmatic, or domain-level governance models—including decision rights, ownership, stewardship, accountability, and escalation routes.
- Develop data policies, standards, and controls covering:
- Quality, lineage, metadata, cataloguing, access, sharing, retention, classification, usage, and lifecycle.
- Drive master data and reference data strategies (e.g., golden sources, matching, stewardship, integration).
- Assess and improve data quality—diagnosing issues, assessing root causes, creating remediation plans, and embedding accountability.
- Support data sharing, interoperability, and access across departments, suppliers, and regulators.
- Advise on information governance, privacy, DLP, and secure access in collaboration with cyber, legal, DPO, and SIRO teams.
- Prepare data assets for AI readiness—enhancing documentation, quality, stewardship, access, governance, and reuse.
- Shape implementation roadmaps for tools (e.g., catalogues, quality platforms, MDM, metadata management) and governance workflows.

- Assist sales and bid teams in shaping proposals for:
- Data governance, quality, MDM, information management, and AI-readiness solutions.
Essential Experience & Requirements
- 8+ years in:
- Data governance, information management, quality, master data management, metadata, strategy, or related consulting/advisory.
- Measurable impact if possible—improved data quality, reporting risk reduction, compliance, data sharing, or decision-making.
- Track record as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders (data, technology, risk, compliance, operations, or transformation).
- Experience in public sector, regulated industries, or large complex organisations.
- Proficiency in:
- Governance operating models, stewardship, ownership, and implementation.
- Developing policies, frameworks, roadmaps, maturity models, or playbooks.
- Master data, reference data, metadata, catalogues, lineage, DLP, access controls, or information governance.
- Hands-on experience collaborating with sales and bid teams on data governance proposals.
- Contribution to communities of practice, training, mentoring, or professional development.
- Experience in highly regulated environments where data traceability, security, auditability, and compliance are critical.

Preferred Sector Experience
- Public sector (data governance, sharing, reporting).
- Energy, utilities, infrastructure (fragmented or regulated data).
- Defence/engineering, aerospace, aviation, space, or supply-chain data.
- Financial services, healthcare, telecoms (data-intensive, compliance-driven).
- Organisations with legacy systems, complex suppliers, or high audit/regulatory needs.
Desirable Qualifications
- Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, EDM Council, ISO 8000, ISO 27001, or ISO 15489.
- Experience with platforms like Collibra, Microsoft Purview, Informatica, Snowflake, AI/ML tools (Azure, Databricks), or MDM platforms.
- Collaboration with DPOs, SIROs, CISOs, architects, and business data owners.
- Knowledge of GDPR, UK DPA 2018, FOI laws, or sector-specific data obligations.
- Experience building data governance teams, offices, or stewardship networks.
Security Clearance Requirement
- This role requires Security Clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard - BPSS).
- During onboarding, candidates must complete BPSS checks (details here).
