Domain Expert Role Overview
Location & Work Arrangements
- UK-based, hybrid working
- Regular travel to client sites, Methods offices, and practice/community events
Salary & Benefits
- £80,000–£120,000 base salary, plus bonus
Domain Expert — Data Governance, Stewardship & Information Management
Role Summary
The Data Governance, Stewardship & Information Management Specialist assists clients in establishing data foundations essential for:
- Trusted analytics
- AI and reporting
- Interoperability
- Operational decision-making
- Regulatory confidence
This role focuses on helping large, complex organisations make their data usable, governed, secure, discoverable, high-quality, and accountable, particularly in sectors with:
- Data fragmented across legacy systems
- Operated in supplier silos
- Housed in secure environments
- Governed by regulated business processes

Methods is hiring seven Domain Experts, each aligned with a core strategic offering:

Key Responsibilities
- Lead data governance, stewardship, and information management engagements for public-sector and regulated-industry clients.
- Define enterprise, domain, or programme-level data governance models, including:
- Decision rights
- Governance forums
- Data ownership
- Stewardship roles
- Escalation routes
- Accountability frameworks
- Develop data policies, standards, and controls covering:
- Data quality
- Metadata & lineage
- Catalogues
- Access & sharing
- Retention & classification
- Acceptable use & lifecycle management
- Shape master data strategies, including:
- Golden source principles
- Matching & survivorship
- Integration & ownership
- Assess and improve data quality, including:
- Quality dimensions
- Issue management
- Root-cause analysis
- Remediation plans
- Quality dashboards
- Accountability mechanisms
- Support clients with data sharing, interoperability, and access models across departments, suppliers, regulators, or partners.
- Advise on information governance, privacy, DLP, and secure data access, collaborating with:
- Cyber teams
- Architects
- Legal teams
- Data Protection Officers (DPOs)
- Senior Information Risk Owners (SIROs)
- Help clients prep data assets for AI, improving:
- Documentation
- Quality
- Stewardship
- Access controls
- Governance & reuse
- Shape implementation roadmaps for:
- Data catalogues
- Data quality tools
- Master Data Management (MDM) platforms
- Metadata management
- Governance workflows
- Stewardship communities
- Assist sales & bid teams in shaping propositions for:
- Data governance
- Data quality

Requirements
Essential Experience
- 8+ years in data governance, information management, data quality, master data management, metadata, data strategy, or related consulting/advisory work.
- Measurable impact in areas such as:
- Enhanced data quality
- Reduced reporting risk
- Improved regulatory compliance
- Effective data sharing
- Successful data platform adoption
- Strengthened data ownership
- Better decision-making
- Experience as a trusted advisory consultant to senior stakeholders in:
- Data, technology, risk, compliance, operations, or transformation.
- Background in:
- Public sector
- Regulated industries
- Large complex organisations
- Strong understanding of:
- Data governance operating models
- Stewardship models
- Data ownership & governance implementation
- Experience developing:
- Policies, standards, frameworks, roadmaps
- Maturity assessments
- Governance packs or data management playbooks
- Knowledge of:
- Metadata, master data, reference data
- Data catalogues, lineage, DLP, access controls
- Information governance
- Experience shaping data governance and AI readiness propositions for sales/bid teams.
- Contributions to:
- Communities of practice
- Training materials
- Professional development or mentoring
- Experience in highly regulated environments emphasizing:
- Data quality, traceability, security, compliance, and auditability.

Valuable Sector Experience
- Public-sector data governance, information management, data sharing, or reporting.
- Energy, utilities, or critical national infrastructure environments.
- Defence primes, aerospace, aviation, space, or secure engineering supply chains.
- Financial services, insurance, healthcare, telecoms, or other regulated data-intensive sectors.
- Organisations with:
- Large legacy estates
- Fragmented data ownership
- Complex supplier ecosystems
- High audit/regulatory scrutiny
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of:
- DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, EDM Council
- ISO 8000, ISO 27001, ISO 15489 frameworks
- Experience with platforms like:
- Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Ataccama, Alation
- Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric
- Collaboration with:
- DPOs, SIROs, CISOs, enterprise architects, data platform teams
- Familiarity with:
- GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information
- Records management, data sharing agreements, sector-specific obligations
- Experience building:
- Data governance functions
- Data offices
- Stewardship networks
Security Clearance Requirement
This role requires Security Clearance, including:
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) verification.
