Career Opportunity: Domain Expert — Responsible AI, Ethics & Assurance

Location & Working Arrangements

UK-based, hybrid working with regular travel to client sites, Methods offices, and practice events.

Salary & Benefits

£80,000–£120,000 base package, plus bonus eligibility.


Role Overview

Methods is appointing seven Domain Experts as core strategic leaders in:

  • Client-Side Transformation Partner
  • User-Centred Design & Delivery
  • Cloud Transformation & Modernisation
  • Data Intelligence & Applied AI (your focus)
  • IT Operations & Service Excellence
  • Enterprise Platform Adoption & Value Realisation
  • Cyber Resilience

Your role: Lead Responsible AI, Ethics & Assurance engagements for public-sector, regulated-industry clients, ensuring safe, explainable, well-governed AI adoption.


Key Responsibilities

  • Client Leadership Guide AI/ethics initiatives end-to-end, from requirement definition to deployment. Act as a thought leader in Responsible AI, shaping propositions and delivery strategies.

  • Framework Design Create Responsible AI frameworks addressing:

    • Fairness, accountability, transparency & explainability (FATE)
    • Privacy, safety, security, robustness
    • Human oversight & model monitoring

  • Risk & Impact Assessments Conduct comprehensive AI/algorithmic impact reviews, evaluating:

    • Legal compliance (data protection, equality, safety-critical risks)
    • Potential harm (operational, reputational, public trust)
    • Vendor/automation tool risks
  • Governing AI Adoption Design AI governance structures, including:

    • Decision rights, accountability models, approval gates
    • Assurance cases, monitoring protocols, post-deployment reviews
  • Vendor & Tool Review Assess AI-powered products, LLMs, GenAI applications, and tools like Microsoft Copilot for ethical/legal alignment.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration Work with Data Scientists, Engineers, Legal teams, DPOs, Cyber Specialists, and commercial teams to align Responsible AI principles with delivery.

  • Sales & Proprietary Support Partner with bid teams to shape Responsible AI propositions, leveraging proprietary knowledge for competitive advantage.

  • Internal Capability Growth Build playbooks, training materials, and communities of practice to strengthen Methods’ internal Responsible AI expertise.


Essential Experience (8+ years)

✔ Core Responsible AI, ethics, or governance: Experience in:

  • AI lifecycle management (data preparation, modeling, deployment, monitoring)
  • Risk mitigation (e.g., reducing risk exposures, securing regulatory approvals)
  • Technical-risk translation (e.g., explaining assessment findings to non-technical stakeholders)

✔ Advisory Track Record: History of trusted collaboration with senior executives in complex organisations (public/regulated sectors).

✔ Practical Implementation: Hands-on experience applying governance frameworks (e.g., converting theoretical principles into operational controls).

✔ Professional Advancement: Contribution to internal skills development (e.g., toolkits, training modules, communities of practice).

🔹 Responsible AI Frameworks – Designing proactive governance models. 🔹 AI Assurance – Developing assurance cases, testing protocols, post-deployment reviews. 🔹 Algorithmic Impact Assessments – Evaluating bias, fairness, regulatory compliance. 🔹 Risk & Governance – Operating models, Bias/Harm Mitigation, human oversight. 🔹 Ethical Communication – Simplifying AI risks for C-level stakeholders. 🔹 Sector-Specific Adaptation (Public sector, energy, defence, aerospace, COVID-19 exemplars).

Sector Experience Preferred

  • Public AI programmes | Critical infrastructure | Defence/aerospace | Healthcare | Financial services | Safety-critical environments.

Desirable Enhancements

  • Regulatory Familiarity: UK Government AI/Ethics Frameworks, Algorithmic Transparency Recording Standard, GDPR, Equality Act 2010.
  • Certificate Covers: Privacy/Assurance Certifications (CIPP/E, CRISC, AI Governance Standards).
  • ICT Training: Proficiency in evaluating new solutions (e.g., GenAI, LLMs, vendor tools).
  • Procurement Insight: Experience with legal/commercial teams on AI sourcing assurance.

Additional Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) mandatory as part of onboarding (through Gov.UK), with discussions upon hiring.
