Domestic Assistant
Location: Langlands Hospital, Glasgow, G51 4TF Hours: Casual Salary: £14.22 – £15.44 per hour + Serco benefits (Agenda for Change)
About the Role
The Domestic Assistant will contribute to maintaining a hygienic and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring the highest industry standards are consistently met.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive domestic cleaning services to patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with Service Level Specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Clean floors, work surfaces, furnishings, and equipment (manually and using machines) while adhering to work schedules and quality standards set by the client, Serco, and Environment Audits.
- Properly empty, dispose of, and replace clinical/domestic waste as directed, ensuring accurate sequence and hygiene compliance.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment and materials are maintained in a safely hygienic condition and report any stock or suitability issues to the Domestic Supervisor for resolution.
- Maintain strict personal hygiene and infection control standards for the position.
- Perform duties in alignment with Health & Safety, Quality, Serco, and Trust policies/procedures.
- Actively participate in team support, including:
- Assisting and training other staff
- Participating in team meetings
- Working flexibly to cover ad hoc team needs
- Undertake ad hoc tasks as required within your capability.

Requirements
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Experience in general cleaning and operating cleaning machines
- Ability to lift water-filled buckets regularly
- Basic skills training, including accreditation by the British Institute of Cleaning Science
- Full understanding of Serco and Board working practices, as well as Health & Safety requirements
- Strong communication skills for interacting with:
- Colleagues and supervisors
- Board staff and patients
- Excellent customer care abilities to serve patients and employees effectively
- Up-to-date mandatory training, including:
- Manual handling
- Risk assessment
- Fire safety
- Proven ability to balance conflicting priorities under time pressure
- High awareness level throughout shifts
