The Role

Join Team NHSGGC and help make a real difference to the patient experience at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
We are looking for motivated and reliable Facilities Assistants (Domestic) to provide a high-quality cleaning service across a range of clinical and non-clinical areas within the hospital. Working as part of our Facilities Team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff, helping to support the delivery of excellent patient care.
Duties include carrying out cleaning schedules in line with NHS Scotland National Cleaning Standards, adhering to infection prevention and control procedures, waste disposal, maintaining equipment and supplies, and supporting ward-based services where required. Flexibility is essential as staff may rotate across different departments and areas of the hospital.
The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to high standards of cleanliness and customer service. Previous cleaning experience is welcomed but not essential, as full training will be provided.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
There are permanent, part-time roles available with different hours and shift patterns:
- 5.5 hours per week, Saturday & Sunday 16:00 til 19:00
- 11.31 hours per week, Saturday & Sunday 07:30 til 13:30
- 14.24 hours per week, Monday to Friday 06:00 til 09:00
- 14.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 16:00 til 19:00
- 28.8 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:30 til 13:30
- 19.48 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:30 til 11:30

These posts are based at Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Present an efficient, high quality domestic service to patients and staff within the hospital.
- Follow specific schedules of work related to defined areas although post holders are required to have a flexible approach to daily routine.
- Economic and safe use of cleaning agents, following manufacturers recommended instructions.
- Care and use of mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Inform supervisor of requirements for work materials as required and check delivery of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Wear protective clothing as supplied by the department.
- Disposal of waste in accordance with relevant policy.
- Work in accordance with pre-agreed cleaning schedules/frequencies (as per work schedule).
- Respond to rectifications following audit within given timescales.
- Comply with infection control guidelines including colour coding system.
- Participate in maintaining security at all times including key control and closing windows and doors as per work schedule.

Please note that successful candidates will be required to attend a mandatory 2-day centralised induction programme before commencing employment. Travel to any NHSGGC location may be required to attend the induction.
